I took her to the nearest hospital (which, incidentally had only one person sitting in the waiting room), and was told that they didn't accept her insurance, and she'd have to go somewhere else.
If that was the emergency room, I'm pretty sure that was blatantly illegal.
They probably didn't say she "had to" go somewhere else they probably said "she should". That's my bet anyways- then it's not illegal. And actually I think only certain hospitals in the US have to take everyone no matter there insured status.
