Perfect! That's exactly what I was looking for.
I already knew about the old fdisk/mbr portion,
but not how to install the second-stage loader.
That link gives the magic incantations.

Boot from installation CD, open "Recovery Console", and do:
bootcfg /rebuild
fixmbr
fixboot

I'll try it out here later and report back.
