I'm afraid I don't know the gory details about what Windows needs to boot either. There are a number of guides including this one:

But like most guides of the sort it is incomplete. It shows the MBR and bootloaders being backed up, but never shows them being restored

Presumably it is a straight forward reversal with dd, but I've never actually tried it. Though I do actually have the need to do it at soon, maybe I'll give it a go
