The drive at the end of the cable should be "Master (0)".

On actual computer systems with cable select, this is an important distinction.

Opinfo, the empeg has no cable select feature, so it does not matter which disk drive is in which position, it only matters which disk has the jumper. The one with the jumper is the secondary or slave disk, no matter where it's mounted or which spot on the cable it occupies.

I would suggest disconnecting one of the disk drives completely, and see if the remaining disk (with jumper removed) is recognized at boot up. Try it with both drives. Maybe only one of your disks has gone bad.

The E2FSCK messages are irrelevant if the player's disk drives aren't recognized at all (the Bad Pump message when you attempt to reflash the developer firmware indicates that the disk drives are not working).

Please go through every single one of the steps about drive troubleshooting in the FAQ. Go through every single sentence and bullet point in that FAQ entry carefully.
