Basically, you have serial / console connectivity. The bad news is:

Implies that the player is not finding the hard drives at all. Not even from the boot loader. So the pump will not work. This is usually a cable fault, disk fault or IDE header fault. Your best bet is to check everything listed in the FAQ about troubleshooting the drives. From the sound of it, you have already done so. But the fact that the disk (or disks) are not showing up at boot is the critical factor here...
