ReiserFS may increase filesystem performance and free up some IO wait or something, but what are you going to use that extra CPU time or IO throughput for?

Just to dissuade you a little more, you aren't going to get any noticeable IO speed improvements either. The IO is limited by the empegs bus bandwidth and the lack of DMA. Another fs won't change that.
