Yeah, because flatbed scanners are designed to work at X dpi, and slide scanners, to do their job properly, must work at (X * 10) dpi. And flatbeds are designed to do reflective light, and slide scanners do transmissive light. Hence the reasons for the difference in expense, and the difference in quality.
