Hi,
Whenever i turn on my empeg, it always says "End of Playlist", it use to go back to the last song it was playing before. I connected the Serial cable to see if something was going on with the hdd's and i see this at the end:
cat: /drive0/var/tts/greetings.pcm: No such file or directory hijack_exec("", "exec /drive0/var/ttsclock"), rc=0 (okay) hijack: removed menu entry: "Hard Disk Detection" hijack: removed menu entry: "Serial Port Assignment" khttpd: listening on port 80 kftpd: listening on port 21 player.cpp : 385:empeg-car 2.00 2003/04/01. hda: read_intr: status=0x59 hda: read_intr: error=0x40 end_request: I/O error, dev 03:03 (hda), sector 0 hda: read_intr: status=0x59 hda: read_intr: error=0x40 end_request: I/O error, dev 03:03 (hda), sector 0 Prolux 4 empeg car - 2.1434 Mar 26 2003 Vcb: 0x4086d000 hda: read_intr: status=0x59 hda: read_intr: error=0x40 end_request: I/O error, dev 03:03 (hda), sector 0
Can anyone tell me about this error?
thanks

Looks like a hardware error - check the drive cable (crimping og contacts) and the soldering of the IDE header on the mainboard. You could also try a manual fsck in case it's a corrupted file system (all well documented in the FAQ) Could also be the drive itself dying...

I would suspect a corrupted filesystem here: do a quick FAQ for what to do.

Thanks for the replys but it's weird when I Run the e2fsck Fix from the FAQ. this is what I get:
Starting bash. empeg:/empeg/bin# ro empeg:/empeg/bin# umount /dev/hda4 empeg:/empeg/bin# umount /dev/hdc4 empeg:/empeg/bin# swapon /swapfile Adding Swap: 16028k swap-space (priority -1) empeg:/empeg/bin# fsck -fay / Parallelizing fsck version 1.19 (13-Jul-2000) e2fsck 1.19, 13-Jul-2000 for EXT2 FS 0.5b, 95/08/09 ext2fs_check_if_mount: No such file or directory while determining whether /dev/ hda5 is mounted. Pass 1: Checking inodes, blocks, and sizes Pass 2: Checking directory structure Pass 3: Checking directory connectivity Pass 4: Checking reference counts Pass 5: Checking group summary information /dev/hda5: 1515/4096 files (0.5% non-contiguous), 9458/16384 blocks empeg:/empeg/bin# fsck -fay /dev/hda4 Parallelizing fsck version 1.19 (13-Jul-2000) e2fsck 1.19, 13-Jul-2000 for EXT2 FS 0.5b, 95/08/09 ext2fs_check_if_mount: No such file or directory while determining whether /dev/ hda4 is mounted. Pass 1: Checking inodes, blocks, and sizes
etc........
Why does it say no such file or directory? or am i doing something wrong?

No, that's normal because of the nonstandard way the empeg's Linux installation is. While you my have a corrupted filesystem, I believe that the I/O errors are hardware errors and need to be corrected themselves. Could be the IDE header, the cable, or the hard drive. There's a FAQ on what to look for.

The error is on /dev/hda3, not the one(s) you ran fsck on.
/dev/hda3 is where the player software saves a lot of settings, including the current running order (playlist) and per-track settings and stuff.
There is no fsck for /dev/hda3, but you could instead simply wipe it clean and hope that fixes the error.
Connect via serial port, hit control^C to break out of the player and get a shell (command) prompt. Then do this to wipe out /dev/hda3:
cat /dev/zero > /dev/hda3
Cheers

That's expected. The command that Mark gave you simply reads the content of /dev/zero and writes it to /dev/hda3. Since /dev/zero is an infinitely-long sequence of zeros, it'll stop when /dev/hda3 is full, giving that error.
And /dev/hda3 is only 16Mb in size, so it'll fill up quite quickly.

yeah, like Roger said, that message was expected, and good to see.
Now cycle the power and see if it works.

That's just a useless "warning", not an error.
Ignore it.

an It just says that a certain time or number of mount operations has elapsed since last file systemcheck (fsck) was run on the partition. d can, IIRC, be turned off with Hijack. No worries, if something potentially truly bad happens (like forgetting to remount as read-only after having something mounted read-write) it wll stilll notice and complain. A synch will take care of the mattter, but it wlil ltake longer (with big drives potentially loooong) time as it wll then do an fsck at that time. Which is annoying as Murphy assures it will be the time whenyou just wanted to toss on a few new tracks or a few tag updates and be on your way...

Keep in mind to put the drive back in the empeg, you will need to run the "Builder" image. Search the FAQ for more on this, and if you have two drives, make sure the good one is disconnected.
