Hi everyone,
Just wanted to know how long is the wait once you are in queue. According to the Empeg website, my number is 9054. Doe this mean there are 9,053 other people ahead of me? And if so, what's the rate of order fufillment? Just curious when I will have to sell my neighbor to buy the thing! ;)

No, it means that there were 9,053 registrations at the website before you since they went online (more than a year ago, before they even shipped a Mark 1). That doesn't mean they have to sell 9053 players, it means that 9053 people registered an interest in the player before you. Not all of those registrations are valid, and even out of the valid registrations, only a fraction of those will actually buy a player.
And if so, what's the rate of order fufillment?
That's hard to say, since you can't really know what percentage of those registrations will follow through with a purchase. But here's a (possibly incorrect) indicator:
If I remember correctly, they said they got up to registration number 6500 or so. Out of those 6500, they only shipped 350 or so players (if I'm remembering the numbers correctly). If my math is right, that's only about a 5% sell-through from the registrations. Assuming that ratio holds for the Mark 2's (and there's no reason to assume it will, but just for argument's sake...)
So, let's see... 9054-6500=2554. 2554*5%=~128.
So you will probably be well within their first batch of 1000 players, probably within the first 200. Meaning that you'll probably get your invitation to buy very soon, and see your player within a month.
Then again, all of our numeric assumptions could be completely wrong, and all of this could be completely meaningless.

I suspect that many people deferred their mk1 order last year, and that's why they got to reg number ~6500...
However, this time lots of those people will order one (now they have seen what it's like), so your sums will probably be off quite a way (Gotta hope so in a way, for empeg's sake... =)
I could be wrong though... =)

Really? I am roughly midway through the 5000 block of the queue, and I don't recall even being invited to place an order for an mk1.
Not bitter, just wondering. Pondering empeg history helps wile away the days before my mkII ships...

We had more deferrals than sales with the Mark 1, since many people wanted to wait for the software to stabilise, or to see reports from other clients.
I believe a good percentage of those deferrals will now convert to sales, so our overall conversion is going to improve.

The 5000's were invited to order around last September (from memory). As well as personal invitations (by email), our progress was relayed in the newsletters.

Yeah, I kind of noticed that (based on your signature and some of your other posts). Did you happen to change your e-mail address between the time you registered and the time that the 5000's were being run through? Have you checked the automated registration system at the web site to see if that number is linked to your current e-mail address?

ok, so what number is "next" on the queue?I seem to recall that in the last newsletter, Rob said the "next" number was around 6500. But that number won't get hit until they've cleared through all of the previous deferrals from last year... something I didn't take into account in my calculations. It's really going to be interesting to see how far in the queue they'll get with the first 2000 players. Rob seems pretty confident that those players will satisfy the current backlog. If not, some of the high-queue-numbered folks will be sad to have to wait for another batch. Still, Empeg could have worse problems than a high sell-through density on the queue numbers. I mean, think about it. With the minimum price of the Mark 2 being- what was it?- $1199?, if they sell through 2000 of just the lowest-priced model, that's a minimum of $2,398,000 gross. Now, I don't know what their margins and overhead are (I get the feeling that the margins are pretty thin), but I know a lot of startup technology companies that would love to do that kind of business over just one summer. ___________ Tony Fabris

Tony: Nope, but there have been times in history where my mail HAS bounced off my forwarding address. I've been receiving all the newsletters at that address, and its where my confirmation was sent to a couple weeks ago.
Now I am all paranoid. At least I shouldn't miss anything if I follow the announcements here. I'll know when to ask if my invite fell through the cracks somewhere.

Actually, I think now would be the time to ask. Correspond with Rob directly. Sounds to me like the "important" message was bounced when they were running through the 5000's. Since they had thousands of names to get through, and many of them bounced for real, you can't blame Rob for assuming you'd moved on and were unreachable.
Rob's very good about keeping the customer happy, and if it turns out that your message accidentally bounced, I'm sure he'll take care of it and make sure you're in with the rest of the Mk1-deferred group of names.

I got e-mail confirmation from Daniel (Gollup) in Customer Services a month ago about my queue # and e-mail address. So, statistically...I'll probably be able to order within the first batch or so, you'd think, eh? Geeks REALLLLLLY cannot stand waiting for new hardware. - -- ----- -- - Queue # 5723
