I thought that the tuner could have separate EQ settings than the player that would automatically be called up when the tuner mode was activated. Before I get flamed, YES I DID read the FAQ, and still can't seem to find how to do this. The currently selected EQ settings in the player mode are also used when the tuner is selected. You have to manually go in and change to another EQ preset for the tuner mode. There is a huge difference in sound (EQ) between the player and the tuner. If this is not possible, has anyone thought of doing it?

You cant find how to do this becuase you cant. Not sure if its possible to do this in the kernel or not.

Wow, I'm really surprised that this hasn't been implemented seeing that the Empeg is one of the most sophisticated and supported units out there. Most good car stereos have separate EQ presets for the CD and the tuner...

The current software does not have a way to use a different EQ between the tuner and the MP3 player. The only differences in EQ are between car mode and home mode as described here.

The primary complaint about the tuner EQ is that it's got (by default) a bass-boost feature when playing FM radio. Also, the relative volume of FM/AM/MP3s tends to be different. This can be worked-around by using the custom Hijack kernel and inserting the following text into your config.ini:

disable_bassboost_FM=1
volume_boost_FM=-2
volume_boost_AM=-6
volume_boost_AUX=4

Name one. In fact, name any car CD player that's got an actual EQ built-in. And when I say "EQ" I don't mean a set of selectable tone presets named "rock", "jazz", and "classical". I mean an actual EQ.

Its not much of a problem for me since I rarely listen to the radio anymore unless I want traffic updates. Let us know how well tony's hijack fix works.

The tuner fix in hijack works beautifully - although you may find a totally different set of values are needed as local boosts etc vary. A quick 20 minute play got mine figured out.

Hijack works great except that the values seem to be loaded right when you select the tuner. It will initially come up loud and very boomy and then come back down within a second or so. Oh and thanks for the info!

Anyway, most half-decent MP3 CD players have an EQ. My JVC SH99R does - ok, it's only 3 band, but it is user-configurable, including width of bands. New JVC 909 has 7 band equaliser, iirc. As do Pioneer units, and I'm sure many others. They do have rock, jazz, etc. 'preset' settings, which are all universally crap, but you can make your own as well.

And the JVC and Pioneer units both have EQ presets that can vary by source - so I have User 1 on CD playing and Auxiliary Input from empeg, and User 2 on FM radio. Switches automatically.

My Pioneer DEH-P9000 headunit's got one. It's a 13-band type. Of course, I did pay $800 for that unit.
