My current mp3 collection is about 15gb... so ordering the 18gb model will probably be a bad idea leaving me with only 3gb of growth... the 36gb (the next step up) is waaaayyyy to big (right now anyway)... can i order an empeg with a 18gb and a 6gb or a 12gb drive inside (since there is 6 and a 12 model)?

I'm afraid not - we're not involved in the manufacturing process any more, the disks are fitted in the factory and packaged ready to ship.

Although Rob can't condone it because it would void your warranty, remember that it's incredibly easy to fit a second hard drive into the unit yourself (instructions at www.dmoore.com). And you can do it at any time without damaging your current MP3 collection or needing to upload the collection a second time.

My feeling is that you should get the 18gb model now, then wait until you have run out of space on it, then add a second 18gb drive later. If you're still under warranty at the time, you could send it into Empeg and have them fit the second drive and still keep it under warranty. Or you could do it yourself. It's your call.

So how does that work with the ability to specify the drive size I want? Say my number comes up at the tail end of batch 2 and all you have left is 6Gig models, but I had my heart set on that shiny new 36Gig version?

Don't worry about stock logistics, that's our problem!
