OK - so I finally broke down and removed all vestiges of my Pioneer DEX-P1R head unit from my 2002 Explorer and installed the tuner module I bought last fall. Unfortunately, the reception is terrible. Stations that came in perfect on the Pioneer now fade in and out. I can only find a couple of stations that are clear most of the time.

I checked the FAQ and don't see any potential explanations. I am not using the extension cable and to the best of my knowledge, the Explorers do not use an amplified antenna (the Pioneer worked fine)

Has anyone else had reception problems with their tuners? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
Phil

All I can say is that my tuner module gets great reception, so there's either something wrong with the tuner, with its wiring (including the antenna cable itself), or with the way it's hooked up.

Your description still sounds like a classic case of bad-tunermodule-extender-cable, or unpowered-antenna-booster. Are you absolutely CERTAIN that those aren't the case?

Well, it's definitely not the extension cable. That's sitting on my desk. I'm 99.9%™ sure that the antenna is not amplified. The Pioneer had really good reception, and all I did was swap it with the tuner module. I also did a search and poked around Scosche's and Metra's websites and didn't see any mention of it (they'll usually have adapters, etc. for that kind of stuff).

I guess that narrows it down to either a bad module or installer error . I'll dig through the dash to double check the wiring.

Thanks for the reply Tony...

Phil

Also check for wires that came undone from the sled connector (bad crimps).
