In past versions of 2.0 beta the Artist soup view also had an album sub-folder under it. It is no longer there in b11 and I was wondering why. Personally the only playlist I like to use on my empeg is the Artist/Album one that I have created (I also have genre but hardly use it.) Is there any particular reason why people wouldn't want that same setup in the soup view? It doesn't seem very practical to me to choose an artist (when these views are implemented on the empeg of course) and then have to look through all of the songs for that artist so you can play the one you want. I think it is much cleaner to have it as Artist/Album.

I know there is an Album view as well, but really, how many people will go into that view instead of the artist one?

Any thoughts on this?

Its presence in a previous beta was a bug. The correct behaviour is for a single level.

The reason it's not there is to make the Artists view analogous with the Artist search screen on the player (accessible through the remote).

Once soup is implemented on the player, it _will_ be Artist\Album. At that point, it makes sense to reinstate the Artist\Album hierarchy in emplode.

Now, I've considered using Artist\Album anyway, but I thought it would be better to make it analogous to the search screen.

Interesting. I actually prefer having the albums under the artist tree, but I can see why some people would prefer it the other way.

What if there were simply a whole other new soup view just for Artist/Album?

Waste of effort -- once the player supports soup properly, we'd have to take it out again.

Let's see:

As another datum: emplode does display Albums under Artists on the HSX109 / Rio Central. This is because they're displayed in this fashion on the device itself.
