Awesome job on the new beta guys! One question about stereo bleed. Will it work properly with joint stereo. I assume joint stereo is not readily utilized by recordings that stereo bleed will help but thought I'd ask anyway.

I think you're misunderstanding the "joint stereo" feature of MP3 encoders. The empeg's new stereo bleed feature is completely unrelated to joint stereo, and the two have no bearing on each other.

Well then I'm curious, since I've also noticed this checkbox but don't know what it does.
What is stereo bleed?
I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but a search on this BBS ended up with nothing, as did searching in the FAQ.

from release notes

Stereo Bleed has been implemented. Certain early stereo tracks (e.g. ones by
the Beatles) are recorded with most or all instruments panned to the extreme
left or the extreme right. This type of sound can be disturbing on headphones
and some speaker systems.

Stereo bleed works by treating such tracks as pairs of uncorrelated mono
signals, and synthesising a new stereo image in which one signal is located
centre left and the other centre right. This means that each channel of the
resulting signal is made up from both channels of the input signal, in
different proportions, with different delays and filtering. The result is a
stereo effect more consistent with modern stereo recordings.

To use the feature, check "stereo bleed" in the tune properties dialog in
Emplode for tracks requiring stereo bleed and synchronise.

WOW! That sounds like a great feature. I just happen to have a few of those tracks on my player.
I'm going to try this right now!
Thx!

I was quite excited about this when I read it in the release notes. I've often thought (especially on headphones) that the amount of channel seperation particularly on some Beatles tracks is too great. As the release notes say, it should improve the listening experience. Haven't actually tried it yet.

Right. There are actually some expensive headphone amps which do this for you, I think it's cool that the empeg has implemented it.

The expensive headphone amps typically do it in the analog domain. I actually have one to those headphone amps, I really want to do a comparison! :-D

Am I the only one who occasionally LIKES to be freaked out by the Beatles?

I never use headphones so maybe that's why I didn't see a problem

Many recordings from The Doors have the extreme stereo separation problem as well.

Yeah i love it. Especially in the car where it is more apparent than on a normal stereo. I haven't tried headphones though...

So i'll be leaving that new feature turned off.
