I saw a little review of it last night. It was pretty cool! Nice to see what it looked like (other than a little jpg). They said it was pricey, but appealed to hi-end audio buffs (sound familiar?) The episode should re-air.

TONY! I just remembered... you have an S110 right? Howabout you capture some 30 second clips of the interface of the HSX to put up here and on the HSX BBS? I know i was amazed by it, and i'm sure everyone here would be to... Eh eh eh? Nudge nudge...

I actually thought of doing precisely that, but then Rob said he'd do it. I assume that Rob would be able to do direct screen-grabs of the software internally, so therefore would get a much better image than I would via an overcompressed digital camera.
Poke Rob about it. If he's tied up, find me on ICQ after 6pm pacific time and remind me to try to do that.

I already have all the screen grabs, I just need to put them online somewhere. I'm not sure riocar.org is appropriate.

If it's just for the community here, feel free to. Create a directory somewhere and put them there. Get with me if you don't want to use the web interface for them all, we can work something easier out.
I also have the ScreenSavers recorded on my DishPlayer, so I might try to grab the video from it somehow... (ATI All In Wonder + Slow system = bad :-)

My HSX-109 came FedEx this morning. If I get a chance to hook it up tonight I'll take some pictures and upload them.
Review soon to follow.

The channel is called "TechTV". Formerly ZDNet, I think. You might or might not get it on your cable/sat system, I don't know.
Screen Savers is actually a decent show. I think I found out about Total Recorder from that show.

Be sure to include feature suggestions if you come up with anything - we're specing out the first software update at the moment.

Screen Savers is actually a decent show.
The guy on the right did seem to be throwing random technical terms into the conversation without knowing what they meant: "The sample rate I get off this thing is just awesome." The guy on the left, who was playing joe-public to the other guy's techie, actually seemed to have more of a clue: he'd ask a leading question, "But does it have Ethernet?", the "techie" would fluff the response, and joe-public would say, "You mean that..." and give the right answer.
But they seemed pretty positive about the unit, which was nice.

I saw another segment with the dorky kid on TechTV Live (the one that just needs to CALM DOWN) and he said that CD's were 41MegaHertz. He kept teetering back and forth - KHz or Mhz? KHz or Mhz? Then he decided it was Mhz..... I almost called in to say not only is it KHz, but it is 44.1.
But still, the guys on the Screen Savers seem pretty cool and often take a responsible stance on issues like pirating and what not. We can't expect them all to be audio geeks like us!
BTW: My wife HATES the show, but I tell her to say that the next time she or one of her family members is calling my cell phone for "Free Tech Service." hehe I know that happens to a lot of us.
One request: Is there anyway us empeg members could have our usernames and passwords copied over to the HSX109 board? Yes, I have been THAT lazy a few times, in fact, I originally wanted to start this thread over there.

No.
Better get it put in there before someone else takes it.

And ironicially enough, thats the guy who did the review. I could understand those type of slips if he had been handed it from another reviewer. The guy on the left does know what he's talking about most of the time, since he seems to be one of the few people on that network that are on TV, and came from a tech background.
But they seemed pretty positive about the unit, which was nice.
Expecially after the really horrid review they gave the empeg long ago. They said the HSX 109 was expensive, but didn't seem to focus on it for most of the review. The one thing they seemed to miss yet again is the interface. Noone ever showed the empeg interface and how powerful it was, and yet again all viewers saw on the HSX reviews were a few default screens, and maybe someone pressing up.

Thanks for that link!
Now let's go discuss it over on the appropriate BBS, shall we? Thanks.
