so, is 2.0b7 supposed to work with XP ? i upgraded the player (through the old emplode, but would it matter?) and then upgraded emplode. Now emplode detects the player on USB, but says "unit is not connected anymore" when i select it. Havent' tried ethernet yet.

I run Windows XP (Home edition) with my unit with no problems, but I use Ethernet as its faster than Serial or USB.

I had very similar problems to what you describe yesterday with the newest version of Emplode on my Windows 2K Laptop - which worked fine under the older version of Emplode (which I uninstalled first before installing the newer Emplode).

To cure it I exited Emplode, powered off the player (i.e. removed the power plug from the rear of the player, then plugged it back in).

Then reconnected to the player within Emplode, I used Ethernet only.
This worked fine then.

I understand that with the newer Emplode version (and for the USB support in Emplode in particular) its critical that you uninstalled the older version of Emplode, then installed the newer one rather than installed the new one 'over the top' of the older Emplode.

So, if you try the above and you didn't uninstall the older emplode and get the problems still, then I would uninstall both emplode versions [newer version, then the older one], then install the new version of emplode.

Hopefully that will get you going again

I tried uninstall and re-installing emplode. doesn't warn you that you need to reboot, but doesn't work after the reboot anyway.

Can you try it on Ethernet to remove USB from the problem dimension? [i.e. physically remove the USB cable plugged between the player and PC - make sure the USB cable is not left plugged into the player or it won't boot properly].

[or if no Ethernet available, then use the Serial cable that came with your unit].

If you can make progress without the USB cable then that points the finger at the USB setup, but at least you can sync your files to the player.

I've got exactly the same problem. I'm using XP Pro on a i815 motherboard and USB is really flakey. It does occasionally work but normally I just get that error message.

If I tell emplode to create a log then in there it complains about some sequence number not being what it expects.

I haven't played about with it much though because I just use ethernet now to upload and it's much more reliable. I do occasionally get an error message but I try again it works.

I can also concur that USB with 2.0 beta 7 and Win XP is really flaky.
I was getting socket errors, no player available on USB, player disconnected, etc. etc. etc.
If you can, go to ethernet, its faster and much more bombproof.
Just my .02 cents (USD)

I run XP and have problems with my USB in general, dont know whether its OS or Hardware related, so i stayed away from USB.
I installed 2.0b7 emplode first. Then immediately upgraded the player via Serial and then configured the player via Ethernet. So far no complaints

I run XP, and ethernet works fine, but USB doesn't. I posted this question a while ago about XP, so you might want to browse that thread a little bit. It's long and drawn out now, but there is some good info in there.

The only real problem I had with emplode & ethernet, was with XP's built in "Internet Connection Firewall". I found if I turned this off, I could synch fine. But, of course I wanted to leave it on, so I made this post, asking if anyone knew how to fix this. And from the responses I got back, I was able to figure out how to do it. You gotta love this board! Now all I have to do is reply back to that thread, with instructions on how to set it up. I''ve gotta bail right now, but I'll try to do that later tonight...

I'm running XP Pro and haven't had any problems with Serial, USB, or ethernet. I do no use the WinXP firewall though. At first, the serial did not work, but that was because I was attempting to use a cable I had and apparently that cable wasn't a null modem cable.
