At what temperature does the automatic shutdown kick in?

I've installed the Developer image on mine (mk2, v1.03, 10 gig). It seems to just shutdown due to heat every so often. Is this common with the Developer image, or the newer mk2s? or the v1.03 developer image?

Anyone got any idea?

Your player shouldn't be shutting down due to heat at all. Can you be more specific as to what is happening?

If you're willing to install mlord's kernel hack you can keep an eye on the temperature to see if it's really getting too hot. mlord's page is here. You need to have upgraded to the latest beta to try this.

Details on the heat thing are located here. It shouldn't shut down. If it's shutting down in the middle of something, there might be something else wrong. Can you give more details of how it's plugged in and what you're doing at the shell prompt?

It's connected to my pc at work with the provided power cord and an rca-to-rca cord to connect it to my amp. from there it goes to my headphones.

It basically just plays fine for a bit, then just stops. all of the buttons stop responding and the remote doesn't work either. nothing on the screen changes.

I unplug in and plug in back in. It powers up and resumes from where it cut off.

Hmm. And you're sure it's running the 1.03 player software? Your description sounds like a known bug in version 2.0b3 of the player software.

If it's 1.03, I'd say contact support. That shouldn't happen.

I'm positive. I just checked the about screen. and I just updated it to v1.03 developer yesterday : )

What known bug is that? Mine is doing that and upon reboot it will sometimes say Failed to unmask IDE or No Hard drive found with the Tux on the screen. Is this the same problem? After 20min or so it is fine.

I don't know about that one. It shouldn't be doing that and you should contact support about it right away.

Well, I just opened my new Rio Car. Booted fine with 1.02 installed. I then upgraded to v2beta7 and then synced with the unit. All is well. Then I was setting up to clone my old unit to the new one. And the new one started doing this same thing. 'Falied to unmask IDE." and 'No hard drive found Contact Support.' It kept doing it and I thought must be something with this version of the software. Then an idea hit me. Maybe the power jack was not up to snuff. And sure enough I changed this and it went to working fine again. I looked and the power supply I was using was only rated at 500ma. So that definatly was the problem here. But I am having this problem on the other unit in the car. But only after it has been on a while(45min or so).

You may have a dodgy hard drive cable - we were supplied with a batch of cables that had a poor crimp on the middle connector. They usually fail after the rough treatment the player gets in shipping. Try monitoring the serial log and see if you get any drive errors before the player hangs. If you get occaisional boot failures (sticks on the boot logo) then this is almost certainly the problem. Contact support.
