I just got my empeg today. I drove down to FedEx because I didn't want to wait till Wednesday to get it. It probably wouldn't have gotten here anyway - they put my street number but not my street name! Anyways, this thing is awesome, much better quality than the Neo I had before. I just installed the car bay into my Ranger and now im upgrading to 2.0b3. I can't wait to get some music on this thing!

Why 2.0b7? I heard it was quite buggy. One quick question off of the top of my head, how do you get the clock to display without going thru all of the incredible visuals ?

If you are planning to use emplode at all, I would use either 1.03 or beta7.

Okay, so in addition to how to get the clock to display quickly, also, how can I set the clock from RDS - I heard that was possible.

If you go to the riocar FAQ it will tell you how to get a favorite list of visuals or you can go through the visual menus

Is b7 stable enough to upgrade to?

That's like going to your local bar and asking the barkeep "is this scotch too strong?" Whether you can handle 2.0b7 depends on how much you can stomach little annoying bugs that might pop up, in exchange for some new features. I would definitely try beta7 out, and if the bugs bother you, you can always downgrade.

Beta 7 is by no means rock solid... It's at the very edge of what I consider usable for daily listening. Beta 3 was a little more stable for me but it had its own issues... If you want something rock solid, stick with 1.03 and wait for the kinks to get worked out.

Beta7 has been completely rock solid for me except for the known (known now anyway) problems in emplode.

I haven't even ever had my player reset when going by or stopping on the seek info mode.

If you want to get music on the player and listen to that music, use the visuals and use primarily the INFO:TRACK info screen, then b7 is far more stable than 2.0b3 (no corrupted tracks for starters) and for me, it's at least as error free as 1.03.

Plus you get a lot of fixes over b3 and a few nice perks. Look at those number 8's and 9's baby! :)

After you have loaded your player with music and you've organized your playlists and tags pretty well, then yes, you can play with the beta.

But for the initial loading of the player, I would stick with 1.03 for now because that's a proven rock-solid release. Also, remember that if you run into trouble with the beta, it's fine to downgrade.

I suppose it's not much of an issue now that all the remaining players have been sold through, but someone really should still test the beta software releases on a clean player for initial setup.

I'll do this on my backup and see if my brother wants to try it when he sets his up.

For no-hassle new-user usage though, I also recommend loading up with 1.03 and then upgrading. This was Tony's suggestion to me a little while back and it worked out very well.

No problems here with 2.0b7 on a totally empty player(30GB Mk2a). it booted right up fine...Didn't start playing anything though

But I had to drop the player down to 1.03 in order to be able to clone it with the 10GB . And now I can't use either player until the clone is done(I give it about 8 more hours).

Well, I'll post a good review with some pics soon enough, but I couldn't wait to say how awesome this thing is. Hugo, Rob, and the rest of you guys, this thing is insane. Great work, my jaw just dropped when I first booted the thing up and I'm assuming it will stay dropped for quite some time Can't wait to get all my music uploaded

The first accessory I bought after getting the empeg was a chin guard. :)

You have no idea! A year from now you will still be discovering things it does that you didn't know about.

Just got mine today. Took 4 days with the Fedex saver. I am busy uploading music as we speak, but it looks like it works great. Can't wait to get it into my car, but will probably be a couple of more days before I can do so.

I am still using the USB connection for Emplode, is ethernet all that much faster?

I did about 300k/sec with USB, and almost a meg a second with ethernet, so yes

It's supposed to be faster than 300kb/sec with USB (450 or so according to Hugo). But you're right, ethernet will push more than 900kb/s. The USB they're using is a custom class which has a lot of overhead, therefore the slower speeds. Something I believe will be improved in the future if I recall.

Ethernet is much more convenient for me to connect anyway, so it's my obvious choice.

The "official" empeg clock is displayed as one of the timecode options - cycle through them using the (I think) "Time" button on the remote control.

The large clocks are visuals, so you have to access them using the Visual button. As others have pointed out, you can make a smaller customer list of favourite visuals, and this operation will be simplified in another release soon.

I placed the first order on the 22nd.... I was the guy who posted about them being cheap :) It would have never gotten to me though, as they didn't put my street name on the shipping sticker!
