I've installed my Mk2a into a late-model Peugeot 405, and Cambridge Car Audio supplied me with an adapter for the Sony stalk interface on the empeg tuner (Autoleads part nos. PC9-204 and PC9-119). It didn't work when installed with player 1.03; I tried it again after upgrading to 2.0. They were kind enough to sell me it on a "return it if it doesn't work" basis. [smile]

Though it says "For Sony Models Only", it mostly works, with the following limitations:

<ul><li>Volume up and down are the opposite way around
<li>"forward" activates Previous Track
<li>"reverse" activates Mute (if held for the right length of time)
<li>sometimes the player doesn't respond to Down
<li>sometimes the player doesn't respond to Back
</ul>

I'm thinking of knocking up a resistor network to map the controls the way I want them, as I'm not too happy not having Next Track.


BTW, my stalk is on the right-hand side.

Well since a number of your controls work back to front the first thing I would do is to swap the side your stalk is on in emplode and see how it behaves then. It may fix most, if not all, of your problems!

I don't know which side is the default (I currently have no stalk_side setting in my config.ini), and Sven's otherwise excellent site doesn't say.

I'll choose one at random for tonight and then the other, unless someone can enlighten me earlier...

That's because I don't have any knwoledge about this either. My guess is that it defauts to "left", but that is only a guess.

I don't know about this either. If I knew, I would add the information to my site (and to the appropriate section of riocar.org).

I tried setting stalk_side to "right" last night and everything is as it was, so I suspect that's the default. I'll change it to "left" for the weekend and report back.

i've got a 406 and a peugeot to stalk - converter, too..
i had the same effect (in 1.03 it didn't work and in 2.0b3 it works) .. the setting "right" mirrored the functionality here, too. now i have the setting at left and everything works well :-)

does it happen to you, too, that sometimes some functions don't want to work immidiately? sometimes there is no keypress recognized...

Yes, there seems to be a bit of lag. I think the convertor does some mapping of held presses - which is more than I actually want, as I'd be happy with straightforward volume and track controls, using the panel or remote for anything else.

When I get hold of some components, I'll rig up a simple adapter and post the details.

A few days after installing the stalk adapter, the sensor began acting screwy (see General board), so I removed it. Perhaps it was just a coincidence, but I don't take chances.

Instead, I replaced it with a resistor network (photo attached). I'll post the circuit diagram tomorrow (I accidentally left it at home today).

I generally like the one I made for about one pound than the one from Autoleads for 50 quid.

There are a couple of minor niggles with Next and Previous: if they are held, the player just ignores them, rather than FF/RW as the front panel does, and if they are used while menus are up, they only navigate the menu in MP3 mode and not tuner mode. I think this latter is a bug, and I expect to report it, but I'm not sure about the former - I think the genuine Sony has separate buttons for FF/RW.

The volume up/down control works nicely, and that's what I most wanted to have on the steering column.

As promised, the resistor values and configuration for my Peugeot stalk adaptor.

All resistors are ordinary 5% tolerance; a tighter tolerance may be necessary for 1.03 player software or earlier.
