Once again, I don't know if this has been brought up before, but here it goes.

I've had problems ripping discs that have extra multimedia features on them. You know, like stuff that can be played on your computer? Like videos, animations, whatever. Examples of ones I've had the problem with are Soundgarden's "Alive in the Superunknown" and Blind Melon's "Nico".

The problem is that, in Audiocatalyst, the very last track won't rip. This happens on every CD like this that I've tried, and I don't know what's wrong. Anyone have any ideas?

I've noticed this problem too with audiocatalyst. I use Exact Audio Copy now. It's far more thorough in every aspect, but I must admit I haven't tried any of my cd's that didn't work yet.

I suggest you give it a try. You can find it here

I'm almost certain that you are using NT 4, then.

There is a well known bug in the CDFS device driver in all the SP revisions of NT 4 (Workstation - I am not sure about Server). It has not been corrected by M$, even though it is documented on the Knowledge Base (don't know the number any more, I'm afraid, this is from memory).

This directly affects Audio Catalyst since the RIPper uses the underlying file system driver to access and manage the disk and the drive. There are various replacements for the driver avaialble, apparently. I have not tried these, and I also have no further info about where they are available/what they are called since I have not had contact with the guy who told me this for a while.

The quick fix is to use a 9X based platform for AC rips instead of NT, which does not have the FS bug. I have no idea if this has been fixed under W2K.

Easy fix: find out the actual length of the last track (other cd ripping software, cdplayer.exe, a real cdplayer) and adjust the endpoint of the last track in audiocatalyst to match (it's far too long on CD-extra tracks).

It'll then rip fine.

You took the words right out of my mouth, Hugo.

This trick can also be used to separate out the "bonus" track at the end of some CDs which sometimes looks like part of the last track.

I have no idea if this has been fixed under W2K.

I run 2k here. Although for me, I thought the newer Audiograbber version fixed it, as I did have problem with CD Extra disks back when I first started running 2k. Then again, that was back when 2k was in beta, so maybe the fix was OS side.
