My current phone, a rather excellent Nexus 5X, has a half-decent camera. While playing with it today, I did notice a bit of an imperfection though: it seems prone to internal reflection of particularly bright objects!

In other words, for a really bright object, one will see the main image of it, and then a smaller, darker reflection: courtesy of the light bouncing back off of the sensor, out to the lens, and then a dim reflection bounces from the rear side of the lens back onto the sensor again. Kinda like double vision.

I got a virtually identical effect with my Pixel phone. (Unsurprising, since it uses the same camera module from Sony.)

Seeing 90% eclipse was pretty fun from the apartment roof here. Hearing the experiences in the totality zone have me already pondering where to ytravel to for the 2024 event.

Was nice for a change too for a lot of people to be able to rally together and share in a positive event. Things in town seemed to just pause for a bit.

Yeah, the main quad on campus here filled up with people watching each other watching the partial eclipse. The next big one crosses right through Dallas, where my parents live, making that pretty much a no-brainer.

I was in SC (Table Rock) with family (and a crowd) for totality. Off and on clouds opened up about 10 (maybe 15) minutes before totality.

It was amazing.

We're also considering a trip in '24. I'll bring better photo equipment, though. I want to get the pic a friend got in OR (but my pic would have had clouds on the edges):
