2 of the Pis I ordered came, one will show up Thursday.

I have plans for all three, but, thinking about other uses, I rather want whole-house synchronized audio. In truth, I want something like this:

Have any of you given thought to what you plan to do with your Pis?

I'd imagine it's faster and cheaper to buy a bunch of Squeezeboxes. Though you could also try running Squeezeplay or Squeezeslave on the Pi boards, all pulling from the same server, which you could also run on one of those same Pis. Trying to reinvent the wheel in this case could be a huge hassle, unless of course you want to do it for the challenge or to create a product of your own.

Quite. And if you check the Squeezebox forums you'll find someone has already ported both Squeezebox Server and Squeezeslave to the Pi.

I'm not looking to do as a product. Nor, exactly, a challenge. In all likelihood the server will go on the Mac Mini which runs everything else in the house, and we'll go from there. andy, thanks for the pointer.

I'm going to get a bunch of them and just run Shairport with a home made amplifier daughterboard to drive ceiling mounted speakers. Not sure if synchronised playback is important for me yet.

I also decided to hold off buying more than one for now (despite being given the opportunity) to give people further down the list a chance to get one without waiting even longer. Once I can just order them from stock from Farnell then I'll order more.

They are currently available in transparent, and a frosted light green which is rather nice. I can do them in other colours to special order, if the quantities are sufficient. Custom etching can be done as well.

The boxes come with two lids, one ventilation only one and one with slots for the cables.
