One - I still trust, but the other definitely not.

Ahh well, lesson learned...moving on...

Anyone need a Director of Security or CISO? Very experienced; chairman of the Scottish branch of the Institute of Information Security Professionals and President-elect of ISACA Scotland; comfortable running multi-million pound security improvement programmes across global enterprises...

<sigh> Not bitter at all...

Yeah, the nearby villagers keep stealing our crap. Volunteer basis, but the food is good and you can't beat the sunrise.

You can get alarm panels with key pads, battery backup, motion sensors, switches and about all you need for around $70. Then add $20 for a loud siren and you should be good.

One thing I did to our cabin (in the middle of nowhere) was to put the alarm switch on the unlocked screen door. Bad guys will open the screen door, the siren will go off (then probably pants are soiled) and they then leave. Nothing gets broken and the bad guys are discouraged. We initially had the switch on the inside door but then we still had to fix a kicked in door even if they didn’t seal anything.

If you don’t have electric to the place you could probably get a solar battery charger off eBay for around $30 to keep the battery charged. I got one that was used to keep a new Volkswagen charged on the boat ride to the USA from where ever.

Our alarm system even caught some bad guys once. They opened the door, the alarm called us, we called the cops, the cops found them hiding out in the woods with loot from other cabin break-ins.

One other very cheap alternative.

Ingredients:

«» One of those pull string firecrackers
«» A plastic bag
«» Silicone glue/sealer
«» Oxygen & Acetylene

Put the string through the plastic bag, one end through the opening and the other end through the bottom of the bag. Seal the bottom string hole air tight with the silicone sealer/glue. Fill the bag with oxygen and acetylene. Tie one end of the firecracker to the thing you want to keep and the other end to a tree (or whatever) . When they go to drag the “thing” away it will sound like a shotgun going off right next to them. Guaranteed to leave skid marks in the pants.

This also good for Halloween hay rides with the primer of a ghost story about the crazy shotgun guy that haunts the woods. The tractor trips the string - BANG
