Looks like Verizon stores are blowing out original iPads starting at $299 for the 16GB model.

If anyone has a VZ store in their area, mind picking one up for me?

All the stores in southern Orange County are out of the 16GB, along with their local warehouse. Person at the closest store said there was a quick rush on them once it was announced.

The 16GB WiFi refurb is sold out at Apple.ca so the cheapest iPad 1 is the 32GB WiFi refurb model at $449 CDN (or $429 US on Apple.com)

hmmmm, that's a good deal. It'll probably be gone by the time I'd be able to take advantage.

I really, REALLY want an iPad, but I hate to drop the money and find that I don't end up carrying it with me. I actually have an iPad 2 arriving today (or hoping to) from the Apple store, but it is designated for my wife. I plan to carry it around for a week or two to see if it's something I would find useful. If so, I might look at a first generation. It would be awesome to pick one up for $300, but if that deal is gone I have a coworker willing to sell me her barely used iPad with case for $350.

I want to thank Tom for getting me an iPad. It's not he first time he's helped me out like this either.
