I have a user that claims that some code I wrote doesn't work on Mac. Can someone click on the following link and confirm that it opens a PDF file inline?

Safari, FireFox or both are good.

EDIT: link removed. Thanks for the help!

Firefox 2.0.0.9 brings up a Open/Save dialog with the default as open in Preview which when clicked brings up some sort of school report.

Thanks. The dude totally flamed me in the email, so I wanted to make sure it worked before I wrote a nice message back .

Claimed I wrote it for "WINTEL". He must have failed to notice that it's a PDF file opened through PHP running on a Linux server.

I wouldn't be so quick to assume it's working for everyone.

Some people had issues on my server downloading certain files because their browser interpreted them incorrectly. I had to add a MIME type declaration in the base .htaccess file to ensure it works for everyone. The last was with dmg files.

I've also seen plenty of sites where PDF files will not open inline, but I've never bothered to check why. I'm sure their web masters weren't going to send me a check for my time and i had other stuff to move on to.

Yeah...I don't expect it to display inline on all browser/os/viewer combinations, but it should at least ask to download, and it seems to be.

I also have had some issues with sending the right headers when serving up files with PHP, but my current configuration seems to work well in all the various combinations that I've tried. That said, I'm sure there are some combinations somewhere that don't work, and I'm going to work with my critic to get it to work, cause I'm just nice like that .

That was my first thought. Surely OS X has a pdf viewer built in?

Good. I hate that. I much prefer PDF files to open in a separate window.

Ditto here. Having them shoehorned inside a browser makes full-page viewing impractical on most displays, and just confuses the user as to how browsers work.

Cheers

So don't install the browser plugin.

PITA with Adobe on Windows. You have to go and uninstall it afterwards. Which is why I installed FoxIt on my machines at home.

You can install the PDF Download addon if you're using Mozilla. It will prompt you each time.
