Nope. Interesting development. I long ago lost interest in ReiserFS due to the bugs I'd experienced and Hans', in retrospect, megalomania (essentially, in my experience, his refusal to acknowledge that there were bugs in his software), but I didn't really expect that he was going to kill someone.

Slashdot has been following the story since Oct 2006.

I find it very sad.

It is disappointing that the work he's championed is being abandoned by the commercial distros - though I suppose they could claim support issues given Namesys' uncertainty.

Hans is a visionary - not sure how viable his ideas are in the linux kernel or how solid the implementation is - but the dedication he's shown over the years is impressive.

I used to use ReiserFS and had a problem so I paid for some Namesys support and the guys helped me out.

I suspect that this gives me some kind of irrational 'bond' and leads to a desire to support him in some way - quite fascinating!

From an outsider's viewpoint it looks like he's got some serious problems in his life - certainly more than those solely informed by the media could ever hope to get a grasp on.

I can certainly see 'complications' with the relationships depicted, being a Russian in the US, and given some of the comments made in that interview.

I'll continue to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he's innocent unless a trial shows otherwise.

I have no idea if the guy is innocent or guilty, but he's a certifiable whack-job nonetheless. For his kids sake, they're probably better off in Russia.

The story seemed close enough to fantasy that one can easily imagine it being adapted to film or television without much trouble. One of the Law and Orders may have already even picked it up "unofficially" - anyone know?
