I realize this might be a touchy subject, but my PC died, taking my entire MP3 collection with it. Any way to get 'em back off the empeg car onto my hard drive?

Not very easily, no. Ive tried using displayserver with an offline web page program and got most of them off, but they are out of order and part of the name is cut off. There are also quite a few songs missing.

It may be a feature in Displayserver 2.0. You may want to just wait. It is worth "bring up" because this is a very real need.

You must be using displayserver to use it, and his works under Windows only. There is a crude patch job in the same thread that works under linux (Yes, I said crude!. I did it, so I can say it! ) It SHOULD take care of everything in it's final version. It is certainly better than not having anything.

It also preserves the database information as it is naming the files as they are named in emplode. I've found this extremely helpful, as I've got a mix of id3 tagged files. After I downloaded them all, I ran one of the tagging utilities on the directory structure, writing the information back into the tag from the (correct) filename.

It's worth a shot.

I think the easiest way is to run ftp client on empeg (rather than configuring a ftp server there). Of course, for that to be usefull one has to have a functioning ftp server on a machine one is copying files to. However, setting up a ftp server on empeg is not that difficult, either, and has been described elsewhere on this board.

Of course, after copying both *0 (tune) and *1 (tags) files, you will have to write a script to rename tunes according to data found in tag files. Not big deal, but I don't remember anybody posting a working example. On the other hand, MP3TagStudio or similar tools can be used to rename the tune files according to their ID3 tags. The way you go depend mostly on amount on additional info tweaking you did in emplode (as opposed to tidying ID3 tags prior to importing files into emplode).
