I just purchased a sled here from another member and I was wondering if there are any instructions for putting this thing together.

Now THAT was helpful. I guess my other questions are, I assume you have to solder before you stick the pins into the connector? And If I don't plan on having a serial or tuner, I don't need those pinouts? Finally, where does the 2nd connector go into the black connector. In other words, how do the dimmer/phone mute connector connect into the black connector that the Empeg hooks up to? Confusing? Join the club. My other sled can't be accessed right now to look how it is put together.

There is a special crimping tool for those docking connector pins. If you do not have that special crimping tool, then you should probably solder the connections. Even when the crimping tool was used, they sometimes slipped out of the pins (see the "video" link I gave above), so I'd say, yeah, do the soldering.

I highly recommend soldering up all the connections, even the ones you're not using, in case you want to sell the sled to someone else down the road. Might as well get it out of the way while you've got everything set up to do the work.

They are shared pins with the serial port. Make sure to follow ALL the links and sub-links from above, it looks like you missed the sub-link from the pinouts FAQ to the one picture that gives great detail with exact wiring lines for dimmer and phone mute.

And for clarification...

Can I bypass the ISO connector all together and basically do this:

Pin10: Dimmer
Pin11: Phone Mute
Pin02: Amp Remote

What size wire do you guys recommend to do this? And I have 18-24g pins, and 24-28g pins; which should I be using for what.

Yes, it is possible to bypass the ISO connector altogether. I haven't confirmed the pin numbers with your email, but assuming you got them from the diagram, it should be good.

I don't recommend doing this, as it makes life hard if you ever want to resell the sled or add features later.

The larger pins go for the larger holes on the dock, the ones for constant power and ground. If you look at the diagram you can see which ones are the big ones.

You should use the same gauge of wire as you would find in most standard car stereo installations. Nothing special. I don't know what gauge that is, but I remember the wire thicknesses on my sleds being the same as you would find on other car stereo installations. Go a little thicker on the ground wire and constant power wire just to be on the safe side.
