Don't open the attached picture if you are easily shocked or distressed.

This is what happened to my subwoofer amp when a carpet shampooer I was hauling in the back of my station wagon leaked carpet shampoo that worked its way through the floorboards and onto the amplifier.

Surprisingly, I was able to remove all traces of the damage with Q-tips and some household cleaner. When I was done, it looked just like new.

Of course, it still didn't work.

Blaupunkt fixed it for a flat fee of about $110 plus shipping.

Aaaiiieeee!

This is my worst nightmare. I have amps under the floor in the rear of my Subaru wagon, too. Every time I go skiing I'm afraid when I throw my wet stuff in the back of the car. I need to get one of those rubber bucket mats that fits the back, the factory one was nice but it didn't fit after my subwoofer was installed.

Plastic vapour barrier. A garbage bag, Anything plastic and flexible on top of it might do.

Cheers

Do you know if they just did a board swap/ unit swap or actually repaired the damaged components?

Oh, I can understand. I was carrying a 2-liter jug of water on the floor in the back seat of my truck. Unbeknownst to me, it was leaking, leaving one of my under-the-seat amps sitting in a puddle of water for a few days. Fortunately, there was no damage -- I just let it all dry out, and stopped carrying water in the back.

For wet gear, I just use a big ol' plastic container. Doubles as a storage container in the off-season, and between trips.

I don't know for sure, but I strongly suspect they did a board swap since they quoted me a flat rate repair price before ever seeing the amplifier, before even knowing what had damaged it.

Attached is a picture of what it looked like after I cleaned it up. I had a forlorn hope that it might work afterwards, but no such luck.

Maybe all that carpet shampoo will clean that pesky stain in the trunk.
