Hi, I've got a modified mk2a with 32mb of ram, running the 2.01 software and hijack 464 (I think).
However, when I'm listening to music in my car, it seems like every 30 seconds or so the play icon in the lower left corner of the empeg display flashes on and off.
Also, I don't have a remote in my car, so there isn't anything sending out an IR code. Actually I do have a remote in my trunk in my pelican case but the battery isn't in the remote.
Anyways, I'm wondering what is causing this behavior, because I've got other empegs which are not doing this.

Is it pausing? Check to make sure the screws on the face of the Empeg are not too tight.

nope, it's not pausing. The play triangle just comes on for a few seconds and disappears every 60 seconds or so...

Mine does this too, unmodified Mk2a with 2.01 and a recent Hijack. As until last summer I hadn't really used my empeg in a couple of years I was just assuming it was a feature I had forgotten...

I've had a tuner go bad and send spurrious IR commands to the player. Disabling the stalk control solved the problem -- the tuner functioned properly otherwise.
Maybe try disabling the stalk and see if it still does it?

I've got no tuner installed, or any other com device. The only thing that's IR is my locks on my car, but the receiver is on the outside of the car facing the other direction.
Also, yesterday I had a few extra minutes to kill, so I watched the empeg for about 4 minutes and kept notes.
The play icon flash is exactly every 30 seconds, also it seems to keep counting if the song is paused. For example, when I started to keep notes the first flash was at 0:07, then 0:37, then 1:07. Then I hit the left button at 1:12. The next flash was at 0:25, then 0:55, etc.
I'm not sure if this helps at all, but that's what it's doing...

My top button does stick every once and awhile, but when this happens it sticks in the down position and the player turns itself off.
I don't exactly understand how this could cause the play icon to flash every 30 seconds without any disruption to the audio that's being played.

Just loosen the four hex nuts that secure the fascia, and see if the problem goes away.

I loosened the display hex bolts, their were already about finger tight, and the problem is still present. Any other ideas?

Mine still does it as well, it doesn't seem to cause any problems.

Out of interest, have you got standard buttons or coloured ones?

Standard, the "problem" (it doesn't actually cause me any problems) happens without the fascia on, so I'm pretty sure it isn't to do with sticking buttons The Hijack screen saver will also happily kick in despite the "problem", so I seriously doubt that any button presses are actually happening, so I don't think it is caused by the switches themselves either.

I know the symptoms aren't the same, but can you check the IR port diagnosis steps here ?
