I am looking on trying to organize my CD collection and I have over 1400 CD's with 752 diffrent Artist and 16,789 diffrent songs.

My Tree structure is like this
Playlist
Albums
Solo < -> Group

* Same for Solo & Group
Best of
Artist
* Same for Solo & Group
[abcd]
[efghi],etc

My question is:

1) Does the Pin Code work like a directory structure such as I can assign
a pin number to [abcd] say "101" and it take me there to dir [abcd] then every thing in that dir tree can now be access by entering in a pin number from the remote.
Say like 1001 for the first album in that tree,etc



I hope I made myself clear on what I want to do.

You may assign a PIN to either a playlist or a song. Entering that PIN will begin playing that "thing".

So if you assign a PIN to a playlist, entering that PIN will being playing that playlist and all its sub-playlists. If you assign a PIN to a song, entering that PIN will begin playing that song.

I take it you don't have an Empeg yet? Most owners say that once they've got the Empeg, they find that they don't need the PINs at all. It's fairly easy to navigate to a specific playlist, artist, or album, assuming your playlists aren't too complicated.

For instance, your level of "solo" and "group" in the playlists might not be necessary, and would be just an extra step when navigating the tree. If you think it's important, by all means leave it in, but in my experience, the fewer levels to the tree, the better.

You'll find that most of the time, you just listen to the whole thing shuffled, or you listen to a specific "mood" playlist, or you alphanumerically-search for individual songs. Trying to remember a huge set of PINs is kind of a waste of time. PINs are useful for tagging some specific favorites, but that's about it.

But the problem is that I have over 1400 cd's and there are 726 diffrent artists. what happens when I want to listen based on my mood to artist who in slot number 458. This is why I broke them up into group,solo and then into [abcd] [efgh],etc

I did remember who you were, of course. I'm just not sure I'm remembering your car correctly, because I thought that you didn't have an Empeg in your dash at the meet. I thought you were one of the few people there without an Empeg in the dash. That's why I assumed you didn't have one yet. I'm sorry if I was wrong about that.

No. If 101 is assigned to abcd, then entering 101 will immediately start playing the entire contents of abcd.

I do remember it. I also seem to remember that it didn't have an Empeg in it. Which is why I'm questioning my own memory about it, because Ernest says that he does own an empeg.

Hm, I don't quite get this. You are not listening to the artist in slot # 458, you are listening to Pete Seeger. Your scheme just adds unneccesary levels of playlists which make navigation slower. I use simple Artist/Album structure, so to come to, say, Seeger's Link in a Chain album, it would be 'Playlists, P (8, I think), couple of FFs, enter, and finally choice of Pete's album. Your structure would just add two additional levels, without simplifying existing ones.

Of course, I also have several mood and genre lists, but they are just copies of other lists and change quite frequently. When I want to listen to a specific artist or album, I either use search or 'base' list structure.
