The Boxer Empeg is back in its rightful place, top centre of the dashboard, after a two year absence!
Despite having been told by my Renault dealership that no such thing existed and not finding one by googling: I was looking through a Renault accessory booklet in reception, whilst waiting for my car, and I spotted a photo of a set up with 2 Din units: Cost of kit
£4.46!
So, I've got it looped in to the aux socket of a Pioneer, not an audiophile set up perhaps, but a whole load better than no Empeg at all!

(I know how you feel...thanks to MLord, mine is functioning in my vehicle again after more than a year of absence. Broadcast radio sucks.)

I've just got to do a bit more cosmetic work, and fit a little gizmo I've devised with a couple of relays, which enables an MP3 player to be fed in to the same aux socket as the Empeg, automatically when the Empeg is switched off/removed.

Probably about the middle of next week.

Ouch! Seriously though Godfrey, make sure it's the right wire.... You don't want the roof coming down every time you take the empeg out!

The Renault, much too clever system, with no keys and sensors that turn the lights and wipers on and off, as well as picking your nose when needed, has no actual ignition off, it's controlled by a pulse: A bullshitter at the Reg Vardy dealership told me, but when you've ripped out the two dedicated units (that jump about like crazy on Welsh B roads) and discovered that they are bog standard din units with a bit of pretty face paint, it all works like any other frigging car!
Trust me: with a system involving five relays in a box, I managed to get the Empeg to work in the Range Rover with the stock HU and amps, so that the proprietary radio/CD player came back on when you switched off the Empeg or removed it, when I took it down to Unicar, they said: "That's so ingenious, you can only clap your hands!" - I was only stumped by the Bose system in the Audi TT, because the amps aren't at line level..

Good work on the install. Debunking modern automotive complexity one install at a time.

Slightly off topic, but did the Audi Bose actually want speaker level inputs? My Benz Bose is taking line inputs but it's darn quiet. Maybe the speed sense has turned the volume down, the amp is just set low, it's weird because it's Bose, or it wants speaker inputs into the amp...

To be honest, I don't know, I spent a couple of hours on my back, in what, in a TT is a very confined space, thought, I can't figure out these connections and took it to the professionals!

If you are right in your diagnosis of the Benz, however: This can probably be solved by installing a small amp across the ignition (Here, you can get them as a ready built compact package from Maplins), with a simple 2gang pot to adjust levels

Audi TT amps are line level, but there is definitly some bose trickery going on. I was able to splice in line level inputs as depicted here:

http://dougmorrison.info/modules.php?set...=view_album.php

I have since replaced my crappy sodder job with a prefab kit from here:

Well Done, I came upwith a simpler solution: I sold the Audi TT!
