Have you tried BugMeNot? They probably won't have it, but it's worth checking.

WOW- there's a firefox extension to right-click on a username entry field and have it fill in bugmenot answers. Awesome.

Just installed it, about to try it.

Whenever I install Firefox, that's always the second extension I install (right after AdBlock).

I can't imagine surfing without the auto-BugMeNot thing.

People have erected all these bogus barriers on the web for no useful reason.
This de-hassle-ifies them nicely.

So whoever it was on EmpegBBS that turned me on to BugMeNot all those years ago, thank you again!

Do you count the Automatic Filterset.G Updater as part of Adblock? That's always my second one.

The bugmenot thing works awesome, so I had a look at the other Roachfiend plug-ins.

The one called Errorzilla looked really fantastic until I tried it and it didn't work because it's not fully implemented. It only replaces the "not found" page if your local firefox browser generates the error. If the server generates its own 404 page, you just get whatever the server showed. And I'm not even talking about custom 404 pages either, I mean just ultra plain "file not found" pages. Since most servers have their own pages (even plain ones), Errorzilla never appears. Ah well, was a great idea at first.

There's a huge difference between "Server Not Found" and a 404 error. The first means that it couldn't find an IP address for the name, the server is not responding, or there's no web server there. The second means that the web server is all functioning properly but the page you asked for doesn't exist on the server. These are always pages generated by the server. It just gets a different response code than the normal 200 "everything's okay" code.

Which is not to say that it wouldn't be useful in both cases, but implying that they're the same thing is wrong.

Right.

Their tool, supposedly, should pop up in both cases. I'm pretty sure that was their intent, because I think some of the options they give are only useful if the server is up and only the requested page is missing.

I could be wrong about that, but I could swear I've actually had the thing work in some (rare) 404 situations, too, just not nearly enough of them to make the tool useful.
