This looks pretty funky. Has anyone tried it yet?

No, but they had a short talk about it at the end of last week's TWiT episode. It sounded like a great idea. Certainly one of the most original ideas to grace an FPS game in a loooong time.

I like the system that forces you to be occupied with certain things for certain periods of time. Like you have to eat and go to the bathroom, and you're vulnerable while you do. Apparently the most stressful thing in the game is sleeping, which takes 30 seconds and the screen is entirely black the whole time.

I even pre-ordered it, because I was sold on the concept. I've played it once (but not online), and enjoyed it.

I've not played it properly yet, though, because I discovered that I could get original Command-and-Conquer running under DOSBox on Windows XP, and I've been having a week or two of old-skool gaming.

I'm going to give it a go once it cools down a bit - far too hot to turn the PC on in my study at the moment

DosBox is THE BUSINESS, isn't it?

Wow! I hadn't heard of that! Can you load DOS software onto this like you would a DOS machine? Or do I have to get the files somewhere? If it's the latter, could someone be so kind as to point me (via PM, of course) to where I might find...um...software?

I have the installation discs for the 7th Guest. I'd like to play that again and see how awful the graphics really were.

*edit*
I like how the FAQ includes the basic command line stuff. I would tend to think the people using this software would know all that. I was pretty young when Windows came out, but I still remember my DOS commands

For old games that I run under DOSBox, I just use all my old disks from the old days. You don't need to get the files from anywhere special.

And, what's even better, you can usually capture the CD to an ISO file and then mount that inside DOSBox (using imgmount), meaning that you don't have to worry about wearing out the disks. It's faster, too.

Is 'The Ship' going to laugh at my P4 2.4Ghz, 512 RAM and 64MB MX420 card?

I just keep my trusty P166 running DOS 6.22 handy as a retro gaming machine. It doesn't know WHAT to do with the whopping 20 gig hard drive I've installed in it. And of course, it's audio is delivered by one from my Gravis Ultrasound collection.

Oh, and "The Ship" looks cool too. If players are forced to kill ONLY their target, that will help decrease the "run and gun" mentality of many modern shooters. Seems like a clever, yet twisted, game with some new environmental realism.

Things like this, Portal, and TF2, it is getting harder to keep Steam off my system.

Depends on game mode, but normally, you're penalised: both in game-money terms and psychologically -- you need to go see the pshrink to get your bloodlust treated.

I bought it while at Quakecon and played it with one other human. The gameplay was a blast, but I'm hoping for bug fixes to be released soon. Both in my own private game with only computer players and in network play, it had frequent glitches. The most prominent was a character state not being sent out properly. Often I'd see a player floating by still in the sleeping or kneeling positions. Really makes it hard to see things like a weapon being drawn to indicate they may be hunting you. Also played on one map where every computer player stayed in their room, to the point of dying from starvation.
