Looks to be fairly terminal.
It was good while it lasted.

Indeed. Sad story.
Edit: Found this via the relevant Wikipedia entry. Wonder what's going on...

Bummer, I think I had about $20 with them still. I'm not going to jump right into mp3stor - we'll see if it stays around.

Indeed. It seems to be back, at least for now. I'm going to bleed the last few bucks from my account now, just in case.

Whew, only $2.83 left in my account. I'll survive if I lose that. This site has concerned me right from the start, but I gambled anyway. For once, luck was on my side.

I'm using the Explorer 2.3
It's downloaded some stuff, but then given me a socket error and stopped working again.

I managed some d/l's last night. I've seen times when (I believe due to traffic) the site has failed to respond, then a few hours later it's just fine. I didn't have any issues last night.

From Slashdot today... Quote: AllofMP3.com May Hinder Russia Joining WTO Posted by Zonk on Saturday June 03, @01:55PM from the riaa-lawyers-in-high-places dept. The Almighty Buck Music Businesses Politics gitana writes "The New York Times is reporting that American trade negotiators may demand the shutdown of AllofMP3.com as a condition of Russia joining the World Trade Organization." From the article: "Music industry officials say AllofMP3, which first came to their attention in 2004, is a large-scale commercial piracy site, and they dismiss its claims of legality. "It is totally unprecedented to have a pirate site operating so openly for so long," said Neil Turkewitz, executive vice president of the Recording Industry Association of America, who is based in Washington ... AllofMP3.com says on the site that it can legally sell to any user based in Russia and warns foreign users to verify the legality within their countries for themselves. The site features a wide selection of Russian music, but is written in English with prices listed in United States dollars."

Looks like purchasing is re-enabled. After a couple weeks of not being to spend my credit, I'm snatching up as much as I can.

Why isn't there a decent alternative though? I like Emusic but no choice of format or bitrate, why can't they do similar?

Has any American Copyright holder been able to claim the royalties banked in the Russian system?

Was nice while it lasted - and it did get me into the habit of searching more, so I got all of Jonathon Coulton's stuff and some other nice weird bits...

Its still alive guys. I'm downloading now to use up my balance. Perhaps its only broken for US users for now? Edit: Their statement doesn't sound like they'll stop anytime soon. Quote: We support Russia in its decision to join WTO and hope that this step will help to put an end to Cold War phobias and that it will also help to facilitate world trade and to adjust business standards especially in the intellectual property domain.
Russia has undertaken obligations to take certain measures to shut down illegal websites. AllofMP3.com has been listed as an example. We believe it's a misunderstanding arising from biased misleading information presented to the WTO negotiation teams from Russia and USA. AllofMP3.com operates in full compliance with Russian laws which has been confirmed by well-known law firms. In this regard, we believe that the site cannot be forced to cease its activities due to Russia’s entry to WTO unless Russian legislation undergoes significant changes.

Those AllofMP3 guys are pretty ballsy. They must have some sort of polonium resistance or something.

I haven't re-upped my account in some time, so I don't know.
I'm not sure I really care one way or the other, I never expected it to last as long as it has.

The lawsuit was filed in federal court in New York against Moscow-based Mediaservices, which owns AllofMP3 and another music site, allTunes.com.
