My Smart goes back at the end of the year and so I've been trying to decide what to replace it with.

Citroen are currently running a 0 deposit 5% APR over 3 years offer which has gotten my interest, so I've been looking at the C4.

Anyone drive or driven one of these? Any comments to make? I'm quite impressed by the number of gadgets - it seems that Citroen are returning to making innovative cars again.

I'm looking at the 1.6 SX auto (there's only two auto models in the range and the 2.0 litre is a bit too expensive to insure).

The car might be great, but the commercial drives me to distraction! French manufacturers as a breed seem to like ever new toys these days, my Megane is also bristling, but I have a feeling that this era of globalisation in design means that no car will ever again make the quantum leap of the DS.

The only thing I remember is somebody saying that they overheard a conversation of Citroen dealers saying that the C5 was the most unreliable car they had ever sold, something like 50% coming back with gremlins.

I was a passenger in a (hired) Pug 407 just after it came out. I commented to the driver "rubbish quality these French cars", poked the radio surround and it popped out and fell onto the floor!

I've just looked at the Top Gear survey from 2004 and the 10 most unreliable cars are:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/topgear/survey/unreliable.shtml

Citroen C3 (133rd)
VW Polo (New) (134th)
Citroen Xsara (135th)
Citroen C5 (136th)
Fiat Stilo (137th)
Renault Megane (New) (138th)
Mercedes M-Class (139th)
Peugeot 307 (140th)
Renault Laguna (141st)
Renault Espace (142nd)

So..... possibly as a company car it wouldn't make too much difference, but I wouldn't get one as a reliable daily driver.

I'm a huge VW fan.. and since it's next to impossible to get a decent car in the US, I was thinking about trying to import a VW Polo TDI.. any thoughts?

I really doubt you'd get "type approval" to import a Polo. It be nice though. From what little I know about auto importation it's a virtual impossability, if you wan to drive on public roads. It took me a year to get a US spec Honda Civic approved in France. Can you get DOT approved headlights and taillight for a Polo? That's just the tip of the iceberg!

I think if you're going to the expense and hassle of doing that you might as well import the GTI.

I have no idea, but VWoA is such a pile of idiots it's sad. I'm almost ready to give up on VW and get a BMW Mini to replace my Jetta.
