* What's New Since 3.00-alpha8 - Player
Tuner RDS fixes.
Hopefully the AF (Alternate Frequency) feature should now work. However, as development was done in a steel framed building, it's a bit hard to test.

Very nice. Thanks so much.
Just went through the pain (loads of other stuff to re-load after change) of upgrading alpha7=>alpha8, hoping for a fix to the random "marked track" issue. However, alpha8 still randomly marks tracks as it steps thru playlists. Not sure, it maybe my install, as I've seen very few posts on this bug for past year or so. Note, tracks are not marked if I manually move to next or previous tracks.

No. That's definitely a bug. It annoys me greatly. I've also seen a few others mention they've seen it happen.
I'm not sure when it appeared but I think it might only be in the v3 alphas and maybe also not the very early versions of v3 alpha

It's really hard to ask this without it being misunderstood...
So, let me say, first, a huge thanks to the guys for the new alpha. Much appreciated.
My question is, is the only change from the previous alphas the tuner fixes?
Not meant to diminish the effort at all. I'm just wondering if I should go through upgrading (I don't have a tuner and had trouble with the previous alpha's stability in-car).
Thanks again!

Dave, it seems like that's the case.
That said, is it safe to upgrade from 2.00final to 3.00alpha8 or 10? I thought I read that you should install alpha3 or 5 or something first before making the switch but it was so long ago I'm having trouble searching for it..
I'm just nervous about losing my database when I go from 2.00 to 3.00. I don't mind a few bugs because the crossfading makes up for it. But I value the stuff on my hard drives more than the empeg itself.

The only change that someone without a tuner would see, is that the Toilet Floor visual, which appears sometimes to crash, is actually disabled in alpha 10, instead of we-meant-to-disable-it-but-didn't, which it was in alpha 8. But I think that people using Hijack got a workaround for this a long time ago.

It's safe to upgrade from any release to 3.00alpha8. (There were some earlier alphas where that wasn't true.)
Upgrading necessarily involves rebuilding the database -- v3 has a Unicode database, whereas v2 didn't -- but remember that the database is basically just a cache, of information that's also kept in the *0 files and *1 files elsewhere on the disk. Those files themselves will be unchanged.

Thank you for the clarification Peter. It looks like I'm going to be doing v3 very soon now!

Hi taym, Please try the long forward & backward press during the Tuner mode. I was not working in my car. We had the same problem with the V 2.00 final. bye

This is awesome. Thanks SO much guys!
Great timing... I pick up my Xterra today after work from the custom installer. Of course, I am now using a pioneer head unit and tuner instead of my empeg tuner, so I'm a day late and a dollar short on the RDS fixes though, but still very appreciative!

I'm assuming the latest Hijack will run happily with alpha10?

First thanks for the new alpha release! Here is my experience with alpha10 (compared to alpha8).
In tuner mode there is a very short pop (nearly not audibly) each time the software tries to search for a stronger signal. This happens about twice per second. It’s the same as it was in 2.0 final.
Manually setting a tuner frequency using the remote control crashes the player. Hijack displays a sigseg error and the player reboots (same behaviour as in alpha8) This somehow only seems to occur in the car and not in the docking station?!?
A short question: Sometimes there is a small dot in front of the RDS indicator. I wonder what this dot means.

the long forward and backward presses (scan forwards/backwards for next radio channel) aren't working for me either, regardless of whether I use the front panel buttons, the remote buttons or the buttons on my steering wheel remote.
It's nice to see the AF debug screen back - I quite liked it with whatever earlier version Peter had it in - but AF doesn't quite seem to be working right either. Sometimes it will jump to 88.something MHz and there is nothing sending on that freq.

Mmm.. the visual is still present in visuals.bin, though, and nothing changed there other than the date/revision strings. So I guess the "fix" must have been a special if-stmt in the player executable itself (?). I had been hoping for a simple on/off flag or something in visuals.bin, which would be useful with other troublesome visuals, such as the current v3a11 issues with Borgbeat. Cheers!
