Here are ther errors

hda: disk error: write_intr
hda: disk error: irq timeout
hda: disk error: read_intr

Those are the only three so far. Can anybody shed some light on the situation, software issue maybe??

It is unlikely to be a software issue. It is definitely one of the problems listed here. Rememeber that the cable and the IDE header are not the only two problems listed there. There is a large extensive list of possible causes, including a bad disk drive. Make sure to check every single possible cause.

What about the master/slave jumper, which piece is this?? Maybe that is loose?? Also, reading through all these things does not seem to ring a bell as far as the loose header/solder connectors or the copper, the cable is tight on every end and I have even tried switching it to the end cable to see if the problem persists, which it does. Are these errors related, or, I dunno, taking this thing apart and put back together and apart again I wish it would just go away, but since it doesn't take anymore music than roughly 4 cd's it leads me too think that it is a bad disk drive, cause the initial 4 cd's or so get loaded up without a hitch, it is not until I try a 5th cd that these messages appear. Other than that the unit works great.

This reminds me.. we really have to get a statically-linked copy of "smartctl" for running on the Empeg to diagnose HD issues accurately.

Cheers

Have you tried erasing the hard disks completely, running the builder image to repartition and reformat the disks?

Instructions for using the builder image are in the disk upgrade guide, here. You can use the builder image without opening the player up.

Just remember you will get the "disk appears to be already built" message and you will have to press Enter in the terminal program to make it build the disk.
