I recently bought the rio car player and downloaded the software. When I start the software my PC does not recognize the unit so I can't do anything with it. I tried using the USB cable and also the ethernet. Is the rio player compatible with Windows XP? Can someone help me out with this problem?

Thanks,
Julian

When you open jemplode do you get the Looking for devices screen? If so when you click the Options button what do you have checked? Do you have USB and/or Ethernet Broadcast selected? Also another thing you could do is go to the About menu on the empeg and get your ip address then go back to the options menu in jemplode and check Specific Address and enter it there and see if that helps.

Did you read the release notes? There are special instructions in there in regards to XP and USB.

What Bitt said.

1. Try using EMPLODE first, not Jemplode.

2. If using USB on Windows XP, please read this.

3. If using ethernet, please read this and this.

I now have both jemplode and emplode on my PC. Emplode recognizes a USB device but when I click on it, it says the operation was completed successfully. Jemplode still does not find the unit. Whenever I went to the about screen my player did not list an IP address. What website do I go to for the USB drive for XP update? Also when I check the stastus on my PC about devices plugged into the USB it says everything is working perfect.

Julian, like it said in the link I linked you to above, you must read the release notes for emplode carefully. It has exact instructions on how to fix the USB driver.

Perhaps I'll update the FAQ entry to have a direct link to the 2.0 release notes instead of just assuming you know how to get them at the same place you got emplode from.

I found the release notes, installed and updated the driver, I still cannot get a response from the unit.

What version of player firmware is installed on the player? (It's in the player's ABOUT screen.)

If it's not version 2.0, please upgrade it to that version.

Ah, yeah, 1.02 software is the reason you're having all this trouble.

A null modem serial cable is required. You should have gotten one with your player. Full details of how to do the upgrade are here.
