If your using mp3tofid and rsync.

Is there anyway you can backup the stuff thats on your Empeg Drives to keep it from being erased when you rsync. So that you can easily switch from using rsync to just playing the music off your Empeg Drives again

Not exactly sure what you're asking for.

If you simply want backups of the empeg drive, instructions are here.

Is that what you were after?

I wanna back up the files to my empeg. So that when i do MP3toFID it wont erase all the music on the empeg, because I dont want to have to reupload all of that if i want to take Mp3toFID off.

I've not used mp3tofid, so I'm not sure how you might do this, but rsync has an option to not delete files. Actually, it's the default. But mp3tofid has to build the empeg's database, so I think simply not deleting files won't really help that much.

Maybe, i'll try explaning again.

When you use rsync and Mp3ToFID based on the readme at the MP3toFID site, It says that it will erase all the music and FID's that are currently on your empeg hard drive.

I am wondering is there a way you can back up the Music and FID's on your empeg hard drive so that when you use MP3toFID you can still have your stuff saved somewhere on the empeg hard drive.

I want to use Mp3toFID and rsync to keep my empeg and my pc syncronized, but I still also want to be able to easily go back to using the unit in my car.

Yes, it's kind of tough, you'll lose everything when you upload a fid tree generated with mp3tofid. On the other hand, if you don't like the result; you can continue with emplode or jemplode without losing everything again. If you then go back to mp3tofid again, you'll lose whatever you changed with (j)emplode.

If you just want to try mp3tofid without losing your data, and you have enough diskspace, you can rename you current fidtree and database files to something the player will ignore. Make sure you don't lose this backup tree when you start rsyncing. Use --dry-run before you --delete.

Perhaps the best thing to do is to use jemplode to download all of your tracks to the PC, and then use mp3tofid to upload them back. Then you won't lose anything, and you can always go back to using (j)emplode.
