Hello everyone. Im having a small problem installing TTS CLock onto my Empeg. I use the Command ftp -s:ttsclock.ftp [empeg], and put the Ip 192.168.1.102 for [empeg] it just stays stuck saying "150 Opening Data Connection". I used that IP because thats the one it gives me when I connect to Emplode using the ethernet. Im using a Linksys router and Im pretty sure theres a Networking or Ip reason why its not working. I have the dev. version 2.00 installed along with the newest Hikjack. Any help is appreciated

The quick way to verify this is to see if you can connect to hijack's web interface by going to http://192.168.1.102 and seeing if it connects at all. If you can do that, then FTP should work as well and it's just a question of getting the right commands going and such.

You probably just need a proper piece of FTP client software that shows you what's happening on the hard disk. Have a mess-around with CuteFTP or WS-FTP and see what it does.

You can also use an alternate method for putting files on the player.

Ok, when I used WS_Ftp , it actually said the exact same thing, it gets stuck at 150 Opening Data Connection. But when I connected with HTTP it connected no problem. As for uploading it myself, in which directory would I upload all the files to.

Very interesting. Okay, well, first make sure that you're not using any firewall software on your PC that might be blocking and asking for confirmation. Then, give us a more detailed description of your network topology so that we can decide if the Linksys router is actually doing some kind of a block to the traffic.

Regarding where to put the files, if you put them anywhere on /drive0 then that's the music partition and they will not be erased when you do a software upgrade.

I personally put mine in a subdirectory of /drive0/var but you could put it in /drive0/ttsclock if you wanted. I don't know how that software works and whether it needs to be in a special folder in order to function, so I'd look at it more closely and find out.

And the FTP software is configured correctly? For example, can you connect to real FTP sites and they work? Also, Passive mode must be off if you've got it set to On.

Finally, is the player in DC/Car mode? Hijack deliberately disables its FTP server in DC mode to save memory.

I can connect to other sites. My player was in DC, I also tried in other modes just to make sure.

Hijack FTP will always fail in DC mode unless you've added the configuration option to make it work in DC mode.

So make sure the player is in AC mode and start over again.

I originally had trouble and pinned it down to a combination of Microsoft crapness and bad ftp client. Ended up using LeechFTP and forcing the machine I update my empeg from to accept an entire subnet as fully trusted (I know, a heinous crime for a security professional, but then I have it all physically separated from everything else so the risk is nonexistant)

Things just worked then:-)

I had no idea I had to change some settings in config.ini to allow FTP. What should I add or change

Normally you don't. He's wondering if you've added any that might have caused this problem.

I'm trying ftp as well, and getting stuck at the same spot ... only the empeg is connected via ethernet directly to my Mac. No Linksys or anything else in the way.

I can telnet without any trouble and I can connect via serial cable without trouble.

I can establish the ftp connection. Then I try "site rw" followed by a put [file in local directory] [destination on empeg]. I get this:

Code:
500 Bad command.

502 Not implemented.
200 Okay.
150 Opening data connection.

And ... it sits there.

Basically I'm trying to update my hijack kernel on the Mac now (first time doing this on the Mac). jEmplode doesn't seem to update it, even though I have picked the menu option. Recompiling download.c from empeg-hijack (to use /dev/tty.usbserial0 which is my serial port to the empeg) and running that doesn't work. Thus I'm trying ftp now ... and I get what you see above. Hmm ...

... solved! (I swear it's like walking into someone's office to explain a problem, and then minutes later it gets solved in the telling ...)

I had my local firewall enabled, and so I had to temporarily enable ftp access (which of course allows access to various ftp ports INBOUND - which the empeg would need, even though I don't allow inbound ftp to my Mac).

Maybe if I had used PASV mode it wouldn't have mattered? Eh ... it worked in any case. Hijack is now updated. Yay!

PASV isn't supported in the Hijack FTP server.
