Yes. Preface: I have the negative ground spike problem but have not installed the replacement harness from empeg (I've got some relays on the power lines instead). I see it when I've shut down the car (engine off, key out) and turned the empeg back on (ie I want to listen to the stereo while filling the gas tank). When I get back in and start the car the empeg comes back up and then I see the battery symbol for just a few moments. I've noticed no other effects.

battery symbol on the empeg display

It shows anytime when there's a significant drop in (input) voltage, I believe, Starting the engine while the empeg is playing, for example, should induce it.

An old battery and cold temperatures make this problem worse. I only notice it when I let my battery get really worn down.

If you play the empeg a lot with the car off you may want to look into a solonoid switched second (dry cell/deep cycle) battery. The Optima "Yellow Top" is the one I'd go with.

If you have big power amps and don't replace the OEM alternator with a higher output one, you'll see it as I do, and my battery is pretty new.

I see it every time i start my car. it doesn't worry me.

the only other time i saw it was when i was doing a sync on a friend's computer with a borrowed power supply, it was supposed to be rated @ 1.2 amps @ 12v but just during the download, the empeg decided that it was under voltage.
i did a recovery (database check) type sync and all was good in the world (at that moment).

The battery icon looks like a battery - there's no ambiguity. IIRC, it comes up in the top left. The icon in the top right is the hard disk icon.

Roger - not necessarily speaking for empeg

AAhhh! I've got this, too but only when the engine is not running. I've got it even worse. When the volume is at a too high level then sometimes the empeg seems to get too less power so that it quits playing and the display is dark for a short while. Then it boots again and continues playing.

Maybe this is just in winter... Otherwise I have to rething the cabling (ground, battery+) which is now coming from the pre-installed factory unit and not directly from battery... But I've to install the microphone, too (in case the VR comes somewhen..) so this won't be a problem..

No, it's a battery voltage sense; it implies your charging system is not up to the task of supplying umpty Amperes to drive your Amps & Subs; you should look at your battery condition as well, since as it ages its internal resistance (impedance) goes up which means it can actually provide less voltage when it has a high current load.

The battery (as the car, too) is nearly new (04/2000). I think the problem is that there are too many systems hanging on the battery. But I'm not too sure about it. I'll have to measure the poweroutlet coming to the empeg and the power coming directly out of the battery during the same conditions. I'm pretty sure I'll find a difference there.
