andym carpal tunnel Registered: 17/01/2002 Posts: 3996 Loc: Manchester UK	....have nicked my spare empeg when they burgled my house last night, they took my myth box and my main machine from the study, my Ixus and my IPAQ. Rather gutted, not mention the 4 years of emails stored on one of the machines. The serial number is 030102446, I pretty sure that's what it is, it was re-boarded just after I got so I assume that's the new serial number. However I'd imagine it's probably been chucked.... EDIT: My Rio Receiver has gone as well, I hope they have more use for it than I did....

Also make sure you double your security - apparently it is fairly common for the b'stards to return and have a second go. If they busted a lock/frame the best method is a steel bar screwed down the edges of the door and frame. "London" bar I think it's called. Gareth

I'm off to the local branch this afternoon, although I doubt the empeg is there. I'm hoping the insurance company will cover costs. The computers have both evolved over time so trying to find any proof of value will be difficult. The stills camera AND it's invoice have gone although the box remains, the IPAQ box is actually at work. Is there anyone out there willing to sell me a 10G empeg or even a driveless unit?

I will want at least 4 on my system. Running cables on people houses has been my job for the past 8 years, and I think we may have a local sparky onhand if I play my cards right with the GF The GeoVision system looks interesting, it can run off a Windows PC, allows remote viewing via web (or with a PDA) and can even control the fancy pan and tilt dome cameras. Well worth looking into. I have a colour bullet CCTV camera already, but I'm thinking of going the B&W route as the picture is better at night with out expensive lighting solutions, I'm also planning highly visable dummy cameras with the real ones tucked out of the way. For example a bullet cam hidden in the fence post pointing at the car. Cheers Cris.

I was under the impression that if you're in a public place, and you're under CCTV surveillance, there needs to be a notice somewhere. Is this still true? Was it ever true? What's the deal if the CCTV is on private land? What if it's on private property, but people on nearby public land can be seen with it? Generally if your system looks at public property then you need a good reason, and you need to register as a data controller plus some other stuff.
