As is often the case, with so many albums on the EMPEG one does lose track of some artists.

I wantered upon my YES playlist and for the past few days have been listening to several of their albums, very carefully, and once again appreciating the talent within this group. And it has always bothered me that this group has been excluded from 'rock history' shows, which has been the case for this genre, IMHO.

I know I am dating myself, but i find the Fragile album to be most enjoyable.

So I ask from this community, any special Yes albums worth mentioning??

I personally like The Yes Album (Yours Is No Disgrace, The Clap, Starship Trooper, I've Seen All Good People, A Venture, Perpetual Change). Close To The Edge (Close To The Edge, And You And I, Siberian Khatru) is also great, but not for short trips...

Excellent album cover! I like TFTO, but it would not be my first recommendation.

I'm going to draw fire from this, but I much prefer the work with the Trevor Rabin lineup. I liked his songs better and I like his playing style better than Howe's. My favorite Yes album is Big Generator, the second album from that era. It was also my favorite concert of theirs that I've seen.

Howe, Bruford, and Wakeman are fantastic musicians and I respect and appreciate the albums that they are involved with, but I just don't enjoy the songs as much as I do with the Rabin/White/Kaye lineup.

I also acknowledge that the Anderson/Bruford/Wakeman/Howe lineup is the "true" original Yes, and that there are people who feel as though the other lineup are impostors. That's valid, but I just like the impostors' songs better.

By the way, I'm sure I've mentioned this on the BBS before, but one of my Brushes With Greatness was to have lunch with Alan White once. It was several years ago, just after they were done with the Big Generator tour. At the time, the "Union" album (the first album where all the old members and all the new members got together) was still in the "let's talk about it" stage. It was really neat having him tell me about it, about how they were discussing the idea of bringing everyone back together to make and album and a big monster tour. And sure enough, a year later, I was watching the big rotating stage with all those great musicians on it.

Ah, memories...

PS: I also think that the best Van Halen albums were the ones with Sammy on them.

1967, thank you very much. Just because one prefers certain new music to certain old music doesn't mean that one is young. I happen to love a lot of stuff from the 60's and early 70's, including much of the Yes catalog from that time, as well as a lot of other progressive rock from that period. It's just that if you lined up all the Yes albums together and asked me to pick favorites, I'd go for the Rabin stuff first.

Hmmmm...Well...it seems that the seminal albums are always the best..at least to me...VH's first album is certainly their strongest and it seems as if they became more 'structured' as the group aged...I vote for DLR

Early Yes best too. I think in general I like the early stuff of all bands best, except the Cult - I heard their Manor Sessions first, so those versions are my favourites.

The only one I own is "The Ladder". Picked it up for the fact that it had the song that they made for the game "Homeworld". Seems when the game makers approached them, they had a song planned for the CD that would fit really well, and modified the lyrics just a bit to make it fit even better.

Also...the Roger Dean artwork was superb......

Definitely Close To The Edge. But I love their first album, too - very 60s, before they developed any distinctive sound that you could say, "that's definitely Yes". Reminds me of the early, psychedelic stuff from the Status Quo (before they dropped the "the").
