I think they were in the news again. Something about KFC mistreating chickens. That's rich.
PETA Shouldn't that stand for "Please Eat The Animals".

Did you see the hidden video they shot? It was just on the news. Showed several employees throwing, kicking and jumping up and down on live chickens. I guess this was at one of KFCs poultry suppliers (Pilgram's something or other). Anyway, I think PETA may have a valid point this time.

Yeah, really. I normally follow PETA stuff as a source of entertainment but that video doesn't exactly give you the urge to eat at KFC.

Well, I'd object to it for two reasons. First, there is no reason to make the animals death worse than necessary, and second, I don't want my lunch drop kicked and stepped on

I also like the fact that they are very against animal medicine testing, and have even gone as far to say things like existing medicine derived from animal testing shouldn't be used. Oh, well, with one exception. The animal tested medicine keeping the PETA VP alive is fine. The VP suffers from type II diabetes, and the medicine was tested on dogs.

Just because they will be killed for food doesn't mean they deserve to be treated with senseless cruelty. Every living creature should be treated humanely while under human care, it doesn't mean they need to be pampered, but they shouldn't be treated like a football either. While PETA tends to go overboard on their views, they also have many valid points, someone needs to look after the rights of those who can't speak for themselves.

Don't think of it like that. Think of it as "meat tenderizer"...
Still, I have always disliked PETA for a number of various reasons. I follow them in the news just to watch what they are up to. I have not personally seen the video, and I do not really want to. If employees were caught doing this kind of thing, they should be fired. Immediately. There is no need for that kind of stupidity. But you have to wonder why a PETA member (unless whoever it was joined after the fact) would take a job in a chicken slaughterhouse and go to the office with a hidden camera unless they expected to film this kind of thing. And, if that were the case, I wonder just how long the employment record of those caught in the act was, and if they were all hired at the same time...
Personally, I prefer People Eating Tasty Animals.

If nothing else, an animal that dies happy yields meat that tastes better. Apparently, a big part of modern livestock slaughterhouses is the way that they electrocute the cows such that the cows never see it coming. If they get scared first, they have a big adrenaline rush, and that makes the meat not taste as good.

As a vegetarian and supporter of animal rights, this is why I hate PETA. They waste so much time trying to be "shocking" that they only end up doing two things: 1) repelling people that might otherwise be swayed to have compasion for animals and 2) draw more attention to themselves so often that when they do find a worthwhile cause (like this one) I'm more inclined to ignore them, assumeing they're just being idiots again. They can be like the Baker televangelists of animal rights - they make a lot of noise and end up recruiting more members for the "other team."

I heard that most slaughterhouses abandoned the electrocution method because it caused the muscles to seize and thus resulted in less tender meat. What they opted for instead was a pneumatic spike that's driven into the back of the skull. The cow never sees it coming and it dies instantly with all of its muscles relaxed.
Ah, the things you learn going to school in Texas...

Of course, the reason they're given massages and whatnot is because they're kept in tiny boxes. It's like full-grown veal. Of course, that's just the actual Japanese-raised Kobe beef cows. Most beef labelled Kobe is raised in the US.

I think PETA also believes no animal should be kept as a pet. So let the domesticated animals run free, fend for themselves and starve to death? They also do not think game management is a useful concept. So their perception is if you see the one deer in the back of a hunter's truck, it's far worse than if 100's, if not 1000's, starve to death deep in the woods due to overpopulation and environmental conditions. Recently they tried to sue the NJ Dept of Wildlfe for the deer that ran across the road in and was hit by some PETA members claiming they (NJ) made a dangerous situation... They are idiots, IMO...
