Hi all. I just got a couple of SonicBlue receivers, can anyone suggest what updates I should look at? My main two frustrations are that tracks do not appear in Track# sequence and that I can't queue tracks for playback without building a playlist.

The sites I've looked at are quite technical, I'd value some comments from others with the same receiver.

Chris.

Jreceiver server side with Trio. Solves both your issues.

Chris,

I run the regular Audio Receiver Manager (herein known as ARM) server software, and TRio which is a terrific (free) application for the Rio Digital Audio Receivers written by a contributor to this forum. Trio enables you to play tracks in their original album order and also to queue songs dirctly from the receiver, or indeed from the browser based application on the PC: you do not need to create playlists, but you might choose to do so for other reasons. Trio is available here.

Paul has written great install instructions and it is a pretty straightforward change that makes a huge difference. I would highly recommend that you give it a try.

Mark (also in the UK!)

Thanks Mark, I had come across TRio but I must have messed something up. From what I read I though I just needed to extract the file from the zip and replace the corresponding one in the server directory. I did this but when I restarted my player nothing had changed. Did I miss a step or did I mess up and copy the file incorrectly maybe?

Chris.

Installing tRio is a 2 part process. Firstly, extracting the new receiver.arf file from riot-0.x.x.zip, and replacing the existing receiver.arf file in the original ARM directory.
The second part involves downloading trio-0.x.x.zip, and installing the files it contains in a new directory, typically “c:\Program Files\tRio-0.x.x”.
Then make the changes to "trio.xml" and "trio.bat" as detailed under "Edit config files" in the Install documentation. Lastly, make sure you have a Receiver switched on (and not timed out) and run trio.bat.

Et voila!

Awesome... I got confused, didn't realize I had to do both parts. Looks great now, just getting used to the interface.

The radio portions give a failed URL error, haven't looked into this yet, is that to be expected?

thanks again, Chris.

The Radio part streams from a suitable source, like a Shoutcast (www.shoutcast.com) internet transmission. Is the server PC connected to the internet?

The error with the radio stems from the playlist number from shoutcast. The stations are always changing that number. What was suggested on here (and a GREAT idea) was to link directly to the playlist from the website of the station as they don't move around. This works well

Trio enables you to play tracks in their original album order...

How does it do that? I have tRio running on top of ARM and I get alpha-order.

If you select to add songs to the queue By Album, then they will display, and play, in album order. If you select by Artist, all songs by that Artist will play in alphabetical order.

OK. I will check that out later.

If I use jReceiver will the order always be in track order?

Sorry, I don't know the answer to that one. I use the ARM server software. I have not plucked up the courage to install JReceiver and I am secretly hoping that now Roger has finished his kitchen fitter's diploma, he will complete (start?) his new version of the server software!

Good luck

I use Jreceiver with Trio. I believe the answer to your question is yes. If I select an artist with multiple albums, and queue all the music for that artist (example album a, b, c), album a plays first in track order, then album b in track order, then album c in track order. This is the default sort order in jreceiver (album, track#), but that can be changed to something else if you require things to work a different way.

This is good to know and may cause me to switch (aside from FLAC and Ogg support).

The complexity of theJreceiver install has been worth it for me. I especially like the way jreceiver automatically rescans my music directory daily so I never have to worry about importing music again. Also, the ability to build dynamic playlists is pretty cool. Good luck.
