I have never posted in this forum because I have either not had an empeg or I haven't seen anything wrong with it. I am very satisfied with the way it works now, and after a good amount of use I'd have to say that these are my only suggestions:

1) not a biggie, but is it possible that in addition to displaying the time in the song, you could display the total time as well? ie: for a 5 minute long track, halfway it would read something like 2:50/5:00

2) This is something you really need to fix. My files are not VBR encoded, and I often FF/RW through tracks to hear something I really liked or something. FF works fine, like any other car stereo or audio device of any kind. It appears to initially FF 5 seconds at a time then after a while it jumps to something like 20 seconds. This is good. But when you hold down RW, it goes at 1 second at a time. I understand that this is because the file is technically still playing in the meantime, but it's a bit annoying.

That's all I can think of right now. Sorry if this has been brought up before or is already planned.

(1) is already implemented in 1.1

(2) is much improved (maybe totally fixed? Peter?) in 1.1 due to use of the ARM codec.

Just one more thing to add along the same vein as my previous suggestions:

Is it possible, with MP3's, to be able to rewind near the beginning of any given song, and continue to rewind into the last seconds of the previous song?

Don't see a technical reason why this wouldn't be possible. It should work the other way around too - going forward past the end of a .mp3.

However, I think that the caching that the empeg does is all forwards, rather than backwards - so it would have to wait for the drive to collect the frames from the disc - probably inducing a 'burp' in the music.

It should be possible to get it to go forward. I guess we need to ask mac nicely....

Cheers,

Paul.

Well the reason I ask is because there's been several instances when I've wanted to hear something that is done at the last few seconds of a song, but it's already gone on to the next. So the only thing I'm able to do is start the previous track and FF until the end (which, of course I will be able to locate now that we'll have total time displayed).

I thought it might be difficult for the reason you mentioned. Just curious...

The Empeg does this just fine right now. I do it all the time with CBR files.

When the VBR bugs are fixed, then it will obviously work better on VBR files than it currently does.
