Well I guess its time to break down and buy a portable MP3 player, I was using my Toshiba e805 but it eats batteries and only holds 512Megs

I would like to spend 150 or less this is pretty much a impulse toy buy I need something to listen to while I am at work seeing they repoed my speakers.

I was looking at the following but I would love suggestions

Just need 1.5 Gig or more and I'll be happy.

TERAPIN 10GB HD MP3 PLAYER

True but I only get about 3 hours a day were I can listen and can't see spending 400 or more for the karma (not sure what they cost in the stores)

You're missing the point.. The idea is to fill it up with all your music once, and then you only need to upload to it when you get new stuff. Whereas, if you only had one that could hold 3 hours of music, you'd be uploading to it every day.

I know that a lot of us have more than 20 gigs of music, but with a little weeding out of what you really like and what you're lukewarm about, you can usually get it down to 20.

(I think 40 is my current sweet spot, but hopefully there will be a solution there soon...)

Seeing the Karma is out of my price range what do you think of the Rio Nitrus MP3 Player 1.5 GIG or RCA LYRA MP3 Micro JukeBox 1.5 GB

I own a similar Archos unit, and I can say, without a doubt, that it's crap.

The firmware for that piece of sh*t was awful to use, always crashed, and didn't even have all the functionality they said it did.

However, I do happen to love my Archos AV340. This is way out of the price range you're talking about, though. But it does mean that I think they've improved their products, not that it means much in this thread

I will say that Tony's right. Having more space is wonderful. On my 40GB device I have 3 movies, 12 one hour TV episodes, 20 albums, and about 200 photos, and I haven't filled it up half way yet Also, it's so nice to have a portable hard drive with USB 2.0. I can copy over a many-gigabyte file in no time and take it with me.

Compared to an iPod or Karma it is rather large. I am rather large so it does not bother me. I hang it from my belt when I lift weights and cram it in my jacket pocket when I work outside. You can do most of the standard things with it like Play Lists, play by artis, title… ect.

For $100 I think it was a great deal. I would not want to have to load music on a device ever time I wanted to listen to something.

Music Manager II also works with it so you don’t have to use the crappie Real Player software that comes with it.

I Googled for "Rio riot specifications" and got this….

Keep an eye on eBay... a quick search of completed auctions show Karmas selling from $108 to about $250. Most seem to go in the $225 range, not too far out of your price range.
