For those folks who have done the fan upgrade, how did you attach your fan to the case lid and what works best? I'm aware of:

Farnell rivets (This was my first choice but unfortunately they won't fit the mouser fan)
Super glue (Is there potential acetic acid fumes?)
Double stick tape (How long will it stick?)
Silicone gasket adhesive (Produces acetic acid fumes)

Anything else that can be used?

I used the farnell rivets on mine, I have lots spare if anyone wants some.

The fan is very very tight against the display board when you are taking the top off, so it may be worth doing a dry run before you do any super glueing, the Double sided sticky tape idea sounds good to start with.

How did you get the rivets to fully engage into the fan? I've tried everything I can think of and they never stay in because they aren't engaged all the way. The fan is set so far into the lid that getting tools that reach that far is also rather problematic.

Are you using the same "rivits" as me??? the ones with a puch in piece in the middle???

I think I am. They are Farnell two piece plastic rivets. I know how they should be, but no matter how much force I apply to them, they won't push through all the way.

A little back story, Stu is currently upgrading Nanci (who was on loan to Filener Laser as a tester). I forwarded rivets and 2 fans to him (one mouser and one farnell). The rivets should be Farnell part 722-4321 but I didn't double check when I received them.

Instead of installing the 5V fan as recommend by PCA in the FAQ, we went with a 12V Mouser fan. There was some concern that a fan would generate noise if connected to the same 5V header as the digital out board. Unfortunately, the rivets do not appear to be compatible. I suggested using silicone gasket adhesive to glue the fan but Stu tells me that the silicone can cause problems with the electronics. This is how I affixed the fan in my other player so I'll need to find another solution for Jolene also.

I used RTV silicone and I have not had any problems. Photos and a detailed description of the project including which header I used for the power are here.

I did the same when I installed it and haven't had any problems either. I did find a non-corrosive silicone adhesive which looks good. Stu, do you see any problems with this adhesive?

Just to follow-up, I ordered a tube of GE 162 Silicone from www.mcmaster.com. I'll post back after the results are in.

What else besides the fans would I need?

I think you just need the fan and then hook it in to the empeg.But tony would no for sure.Tony are you out there.

Sorry it's a bit blurry, I haven't quite got the hang of this new camera yet. I've been looking all over for them damm Farnell Rivits but I can't find them anywhere!!! I had a bag of about 100 and only used 4, if I find them I'll post a picture.

How much do you want for the fans? I am interested.

What state do you live in. if you no anything about windows xp and think you could call me and walk me thru getting my pc to find my empegs in emplode I could just ship them to you for free.Somthing to think about, lol.

This is a pic of the same fan that Stu is trying to install for me. Looks like the mouser fans have a deeper offset than the Farnell. Without seeing the rivets in play, I'm guessing this is why they won't seat.

I live in Ohio and run 98SE myself. I know next to nothing about XP and am trying to learn a little about it so I wouldn't be of any help.

lol,well it was worth the try.It's a bummer not being able to add any more music on my empeg.I can ship you both fan's for 20 bucks if you want them.There both brand new. I bought them for my empeg's when they were high in my dash.I had them moved lower by my ac fan so they do not get hot anymore.
