Hey guys, I just built a PC with the MSI Neo2 Motherboard with a Penitum 4 3.0 Ghz 800Mhz FSB. I got the Thermaltak Spark 7+ CPU fan to cool the CPU obviously. I installed the MSI software to mointor the temperatures of the the CPU, Case, and NB. THe CPU temp idles between 40C-45C which seems high. When I run a game it gets up to mid to high 50s. My case temp is 40C and my NB temp is 53C. All of these seem way too high.

My fan setup is one 120mm upfront as intake, and no side fan and only my power supply fan at back exhausting. If I put another 120mm upfront and at the side as intake, and put an 80mm at rear as exhaust would that take me down any? Is that even a good setup? I don't have a vent at the top as my case didn't come with one.

I'm really worried that I'm gonna fry my CPU. It seems to slow down a lot when its intensive.

Thanks for the help.

That doesn't seem high to me at all. IIRC my Tivo runs hotter than that.

That's not that high. My friend is trying to figure out why his CPU is getting up to the 70's despite having a good Zalman HS/F attatched. My machine is regularly around low to mid 40s.

Nah that's fine, my DirecTiVo Series1 says 59C with 2 7200 RPM drives cranking away now. The old 5400 RPM drives would keep it around 56C...

The TiVo is the only computer I've checked the operating temp on because it's right there on the system info page, which is proabaly why Rob stated his TiVo is in the 50s as well. Normal operating temperature range for a PC, I assume.

My only additional recommendation is to have a fan blowing cool air over your disk drive(s).

As described in an eerily similar thread about my own built PC, I did a little trick with mine...

I liked this solution better than those little drive-bay-front-fan units because it's a larger fan that moves more air more quietly than the tiny litte dual-fan units on the premade models.

i decided to redo my heatsink/processor connection. i took off the heatsink and found a warranty sticker on the processor. is that supposed to be there, or is that going to cuase my CPU to heat up?

Yeah, take that off. A little alcohol might be useful to reduce any gooey residue. Then apply a _thin_ layer of heatsink compound before re-attaching the heatsink. (Razor blades work well for this)

I've come across that before as well. One supplier in the UK (Scan if anybody is interested) likes to put the warranty sticker on the top of the CPU. So you either fry your CPU from lack of cooling or lose your warranty by removing the stupid sticker! Morons
